No question, I’ll call it lazy officiating, resulted in Alabama getting a TD before the half. That “catch” should have been reviewed. Seems every good catch by an opponent vs Alabama is. Several other questionable calls, majority in Alabama’s favor, also occurred in the game that resulted in knocking Ga out of the CFP & maybe Alabama is out too.

Did the SEC officiating incompetence finally cost the league a CFP berth?

Isn’t it time for SEC members start demanding the conference upgrade their crews? They’re losing their best each year to the NFL.

No accountability will ever be held with the terrible officials I mean it never has up to this point has it ? One thing I’m hoping for is when Texas comes in next year that they won’t put up with that Bama bias and the crooked refs and cower in a fetal position and beg for scraps like so many other SEC team do with Bama and Saban and Sankey. I can see things getting really nasty and interesting when Texas comes in and see firsthand what we and other teams have been dealing with for years in this league concerning the refs and Bama. And Texas can do it they got more money than anyone else in the league and a massive ego and self importance about themselves they seem to not give a chit about upsetting the apple cart in a conference by their past history.

I think there is a obvious bias toward Alabama. Seems they get to play by a different set of rules than anyone else.. I'd love it if they left them out.. They won't and Bama will bring their officials with them to the playoff. On the bright side maybe Satan retires after they hand deliver him another title..

Freaking ridiculous that play wasn't reviewed. Georgia should have gotten the ball in great field position. And it wasn't a horse collar tackle either. The Gumps get all the calls, POS.

It isn't incompetence, it is mandated favoritism ordered by the league office in Birmingham to tilt the scales. It is evident in every conference game they participate in. Not a conspiracy theory, but definitely conspiracy to commit fraud. Sports in general has always had a corruptness to it, especially good ol boy southern football. The league is (or at least traditionally feels like it is) best off financially when they can have them at the top.

Last night was predictable. I basically laid out the script and narrative in a huge text chain last night. The catch not reviewed was a conspiracy to commit fraud, the horse collar that was not a horse collar was a conspiracy to commit fraud. The list goes on. I even predicted that the league/Alabama would allow UGA to score their last touchdown to basically show the game as a toss-up in hopes of getting both Bubba and UGA in the playoffs. The marketable push by the league today to the committee will be.....see Alabama just beat the best team in the country so they need to be in playoffs, but UGA BARELY lost so they are still arguably the best team and they should be in too. This will be the push by the power players today to the committee members.....

This is a stretch here and I don't believe their was anything necessarily nefarious, but their were some very uncharacteristically questionable actions by the UGA quarterback in the second half. Throwing the ball a few times right at Bubba defenders, the fumble on the reverse damn near looked intentional and especially the reaction thereafter. Not ready to go down that rabbit hole, but it almost looked scripted lol.

The fact that the league office is still in Birmingham after all these years says it all don’t it? Corrupt to the core

It would be hilarious if they suspended a bunch of refs now for poor officiating through the season.

I believe the incompetent crew that did the Vandy game last week also called the Tenn-Ala game this year. They were horrible both games.

Yep, same crew. The bias toward Bama makes our win at Neyland last year even more unbelievable.
They tried in every way to hand Bubba the game last year, but somehow we over came. Was just so shocked that a few of the Hyatt TDs weren't called back for phantom holding or ineligible downfield or something egregious. The refs certainly let the league down in Knoxville last year. We paid for in Tuscaloosa this year though. The Refs certainly gift wrapped the game for Bama this season

Great post! Wonder if that Bama bias may swing towards them in the future?

May trade one (team) for another (team).

It’s not actually bias towards Bama though. It’s bias towards whatever is best for the conference. I think they may have outsmarted themselves trying to get two teams in this time though.

Pretty much all that can be done is for every coach in the SEC Completely lambast the officials and Sankey week in and week out about the officiating in every press conference following their game vs Bama. Unrelenting pressure. Would have to have ADs and HCs all on board with paying the fines for doing so. Don’t think that will happen.

At this point in time, I think every team is up against the opponent AND the refs because the refs and replay and what CAN be replayed is a hot mess.

SO, teams and coaches should play with that in mind. ie, be up by 3 scores by the start of the 4th quarter? Something like that.

Fans should expect that close games could go either way, which negates a lot of the idea of figuring out who is better at football on that day and time. THAT'S annoying.

It seems the answer, unfortunately, is no.

Would it be better if college football referees were not aligned to a specific conference, similar to how MLB umpires are just MLB umpires, not NL or AL umpires anymore?
No. It would take away Birmingham’s ability to “massage” the correct outcome. It would also put these SEC Officiating officers out of a job.
