Heupels teams were also heavily penalized at UCF.
He needs to speak with some people in the industry that he trusts about that.
is it our tempo, poor discipline, poor preparation on knowing all of the rules or what?
talk to some referees, coaches, and former players about it.
it has to improve…especially the discipline penalties such as playing on after the whistle.

That's not what's happening. The players are reaching out to directly or indirectly to other collectives or representatives of the team(s).
That's not what was said, and I have not heard of players reaching out to other teams before entering the portal. Other teams are contacting players, their families, friends and former coaches and enticing the players to enter the portal. It would be easy to eliminate players reaching out to other teams directly as well. Make it punishable by ineligibility for 1 or 2 years. Also, penalize any teams that don't immediately report such illegal contact directly from a player on another team that hasn't entered the portal. Problem solved.

I'll just say this now, if James Pearce hits the portal then he's an IDIOT.

You're where you are because of RG and TN, there is arguably no better spot than returning to UT for coaching and spotlight. Already getting projected in the first round and the team will be getting far more hype/exposure next season with Nico starting.

Even Emmitt Smith discounts himself versus the pure runner Barry Sanders. He has said multiple times that had Barry not retired so young, he would have set the rushing record at a level that would have never been broken. He repeated a statement to that effect in the brand new Barry Sanders documentary now on Amazon video.

I agree with you on Elway and Aikman. It was Terrell Davis that was the key to Elway's Super Bowl winning teams. Aikman's biggest strength was that it was more important to him to win games than to chase individual stats and accolades. He didn't have an issue playing to the team's strengths, even though he wasn't the team's #1 strength.
Micheal Irvin stated many times ...Troy Aikman is the most competitive person he was around....Don't let Troy's quiet demeanor fool you....as Irvin also said Troy was a perfectionist...and if you ran the wrong route he would let you hear about it...

While discipline needs to be improved, the problem this season has been the lack of non-dead ball penalties of our opponents when they play us (as shown in those stats) despite the overwhelming video evidence of said penalties. The lack of enforcement of offensive holding was particularly insidious because it negated the strength of our defense.

That's what great leaders do. Aikman was never a great quarterback statistically. For example, back in those days, he usually was considered just outside the Top 10 quarterbacks for fantasy football purposes. However, he was a great leader, and a great winner due to his lack of needing to feed his ego.

I continue to believe that the main focus of your NIL dollars should be used to keep the players home that have proven to you that they are good.
I would say that greatly depends on the structure and depth of the roster, and the recent success of the team. For example, if I were Georgia, I would focus the overwhelming majority of NIL dollars on maintaining current players.

Absolutely, it's unfortunate that the coaches/school are basically "not involved" with NIL. Cause that'd be the first meeting I'd have planned before the portal opened. I'd bring in every player you didn't want to lose and figure out NIL wise how to keep them.

I'm sure that happens, but adding middle men to the process is always a headache

It’s no doubt about the record. I’m arguing their legacy. Smith gets flagged because his OL got props from history, while Sanders gets extra credit because his OL was underrated. Emmitt’s original line had ONE HOF talent, Erik Williams, who got injured mid-career and was never the same. Sanders just had one enshrined in Lomas Brown…and there were others near that level. Truth is, Emmitt made his OL better and Sanders hoped his wouldn’t get too much in his way, because he needed the space. It’s not slighting Sanders obvious greatness to acknowledge Smith’s bigger effect on winning championships. That run-and-shoot that Sanders ran behind was a double edged sword. It freed up space to allow him to do his magic, but it wasn’t sustainable in winning. Puts him in the same category as my second favorite RB Gale Sayers.

I think Barry Sanders was the best pure runner in NFL history. However, Barry was a boom or bust runner. Although over the course of the game he would have enough booms that he rolled up huge stats, he also had a lot of runs for negative yards. Part of that was on his offensive line, and part of that was on Barry's penchant for passing up a few guaranteed yards in the hopes of hitting the huge play. Emmitt had great offensive lines in front of him, but he also would take the yards that were available, knowing that the team could always hit a big play the next time around. He rarely had runs for negative yards. That lead to better ability to consistently move the chains with first downs, which leads to more wins.

I'd say that the GM/Coaches at Dallas were far and away better than Detroit had as well. They had some great drafts to build that dynasty.

Drafted HOF or Pro-bowlers
1988 - Michael Irvin, Ken Norton
1989 - Troy Aikman, Steve Wisniewski, Moose Johnston, Mark Stepnoski
1990 - Emmitt Smith
1991 - Russell Maryland, Erik Williams, Leon Lett
1992 - Robert Jones, Jimmy Smith, Darren Woodson
1993 - Ron Stone, Brock Marion
1994 - Larry Allen

You also can't really have that particular discussion without giving a huge tip of the cap to the Herschel Walker trade.

Jimmy Johnson vs whoever picked Wayne Fontes players…no comparison. Qualifier, I detested Jimmy Johnson as I had Bill Walsh (or at least his teams). Now I use them as benchmarks for the mentality of building a winner. Get old enough and you learn how wrong you were.

Trade doesn’t pick the players. Rams got a big haul for Eric Dickerson…history registers crickets.

The interesting part about Jimmy Johnson is that, in my opinion, he proved to be a very average judge of talent when he went to the Dolphins later in his career. When he went there, he said that they had enough talent on that team (when he agreed to go there) to win the Super Bowl. I thought that he was out of his mind. They were nowhere close. He ended up being proved wrong. He also did a horrible job of elevating the talent level on that team.

One reason he took Miami job...his name was Dan Marino...

Ekler is the EDGE/OLB coach and deserves the credit for Pearce’s development and Byron Young’s as well. Im sure RG does have some influence but it is mostly Ekler

I'm not disputing that the Cowboys' selections that they made with their draft picks were phenomenal. They were by far the most successful team at hitting home runs with their draft picks. It also helps to have a very large number of those draft picks though.
