I hate how inevitable this felt at the half. We have some things we can improve on that would have given us a larger lead. Rather this kind of game in November than March. Think we have some lessons learned and things to work on now.

Refs inserted themselves into this game way too early and then couldn't disengage. Frustrating but that's just the way it is now in most major sports. The refs work really hard to keep both teams in the game (for entertainment value/ratings), instead of focusing on calling games consistently.

You have Edey with 4 fouls and you don’t have anyone in there that can draw the fifth, went too small to end the game. I know you need scores but you need that fifth foul on him worse so we can actually get a rebound. Should have had Estrella in and tell him to draw that foul so we can win the last 2 minutes instead of not getting a rebound and jacking up 3s.

Long scoring drought was the difference. We held them in the first but couldn't put them away, they did it to us in the second and did.
New year same ****.

Everyone is too small to Edey and some how he magically doesn't get a 5th foul?

Well. I have zero takeaways from that game. I would have liked to see UT-Purdue but we got the ref show.

I guess the only one I can think of is idk how DK comes in and doesn't try to take over the game at the 9 minute mark. I like Gainey a lot but unless he's on the heater of his life, DK has to be the one trying to bring the team back there.

For all the things Barnes has fixed this off season, he has been historically bad with set plays out of timeouts. It was the right call
Obviously but it’s rarely a good set play run. That’s been a thing his entire stretch here.

With our shooting not going cold or fair officiating we take that w. Barnes has drastically improved the offense and maintained his mantra on defense. This team has the pieces to make a run this year if we stay healthy.

I'd say a very good game vs #2 this early in the season.

Hard to know how a new team will jell. Winning early games isn't supremely valuable. Jelling as a team...becoming a team and progressing is what matters.

Playing this well, this early, with all these transfers, is very compelling.

When you’re way too small everything looks like a foul so they don’t call it. You need a bigger guy to get pushed off his spot to draw attention there. It won’t show up in the stats because Edey only hits 50% but we needed him out to win the rebound battle. Guy just eats up too much space.

According to the history books this is still their first win against us in the last 3.

Other 2 were actually thrown out by the ncaa.

We could have had the 10-14 point lead at half (that we should have had) and the refs still would have found a way to will Purdue back into it. They just control too much now. Maybe they wouldn't have won but this was going to be a 1 possession game late no matter what.

All you can do is laugh.
