Do you think 2010 - present is much different for UT football if Hamilton goes with an interim coach for the 2010 season instead of a rushed, panic hire of Dooley? I've thought for a long time the most damaging development at that time wasn't necessarily Kiffin leaving but replacing him with Dooley.
Yes, there were options to steady the program. IDT the Kiffin hire was devastating. The argument can be made that Kiffin leaving gave UT a do-over, because he really wasn't ready for all aspects of the job. There is no argument for a panic hire like Dooley.

How has Webb and Nimrod looked to everyone?

Hard to accurately judge with this qb but are they flashing/impressing you guys?

I see a lot of potential. Not sure either will be #1s, but I’m curious what others think.

Webb not so much. Still need to see more to judge fairly

Nimrod seems to have some heart. I think he has potential, not necessarily to be a # 1 but I think he needs to build his confidence to be a solid contributor.

What I would say to that then is this year is squarely on the coaching staff for not having a viable plan B instead of continuing to do the same thing over and over (I.e., playing Milton) and expecting a different result when it was very clear Milton is not a QB1. Complete insanity.

I think Heupel deserves to see the true colors of the fanbase with his stubbornness and how this season has played out.
They had a Plan B... and Plans C and D. They decided to ride with Joe, and that's what they have done.

The coaches did not plan on redshirting Nico. There was no promise made as a condition of his recruitment. They planned to get him game experience throughout the season, but things did not go as planned. Opportunities to play him were missed, and now that the season is almost over, the risk-reward scenario has changed. He'll get a RS because that's how the season unfolded. Nobody's thrilled about how the QB situation or the offense played out this year.
Thanks. Thought so. It doesn’t make much sense, send your talented son to an SEC program and wish for him to sit, not sure Heup would agree to hamstring the program with that caveat.

I’ll play devils advocate and say it might have been a good decision to keep Nico out once the season started to play out the way it did.

1) Had to get Milton and receivers game reps together cause even vs bad teams early in the year the passing game wasn’t clicking
2) Before Mays returned to OL lineup that group was not solid by any means so keep your veteran behind them
3) Losing Bru will go down as the most significant injury of this season. His presence and his blocking gave us an aspect of the offense (short swing passes) we have barely seen since he went down. Would have put more pressure on Nico without that part of the playbook being utilized
4) With the defense, specifically the secondary, being what it is I don’t think Nico wins you any of the games we lost this year.

I hope we see Nico next week and the extra month of practices never hurt come bowl season. He knows it’s his team when Joe leaves and maybe the coaches saw this as a transition year and didn’t want to put him in a bad spot given personnel limitations on both sides of the ball.

Just trying to pump a little sunshine before the holiday week.

It probably hasn’t been mentioned but aside from having a mediocre QB, mediocre left guard and right tackle, catastrophic injuries to our receivers….. but having such inexperienced coaches at WR, TE and OC have to hurt.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m a huge fan of Hazle, Pope and our tight end coach whose name escapes me… but having three very prominent position coaches in their first or second year in their respective position isn’t a good thing.

Growing pains for sure.

Nimrod has shown some speed and Webb has made some nice plays. I see a lot of potential for those two guys. Webb was a late developing player in high school that was really raw but very athletic. I think the coaches were hoping to just get them a little experience this year before being really involved as redshirt sophomores.

Yep. The coaches have said multiple times in multiple venues that there were no pre-season plans to RS Nico. He needs to develop, but game experience helps him, too. I'm sure the "We want Nico!" chants did not go unheard.

Some should learn to be thankful for 3 consecutive bowl appearances at this point. I'm just thankful it's going the right direction 1 step at a time.
pathetic that you have to post this

The roster isn't deep enough to make it through the end of the year anyway. Then you start to count up the injuries.

When the OL is in the shape that it is, and you're shuffling the defense... it's just not going to work out.

The only thing we can do is contribute via Volunteer Club, and encourage others to do so. That's the only way we can improve the roster to improve the performance.

Otherwise you're just getting pissed because you aren't witnessing a miracle.

I’m good with this season overall. Games like yesterday expose the roster depletion caused by the chaotic Pruitt exit and NCAA sanctions.

My only advice for Heupel is do NOT overlook the Vanderbilt game. That has been the kiss of death for each of his predecessors. That is NOT an automatic win, I don’t care how bad they are…

What’s your take on the rb rotation? It seems Wright is in then we don’t see him forever like after first drive yesterday.

Yep….. from what i heard reported earlier….. we had a plan on how to develop him physically and mentally…. No plans to redshirt him but it looks like we were close enough to a redshirt that they decided to go ahead and take it.
