This is living proof not thinking something through before you post it online for the world to see when your emotions are at their worst. Plus, people are discussing reform for 40 hour work weeks in Tik Tok due to this? That's a wee bit dramatic. Lol.... I get not being home immediately after you get off,but there's so many people out there that have long commutes and drives home. It's called life.

It's the life that you and I know. This generation hates the idea of just working your life away. Can't really say I blame them. 5 day work week is kind of ass, especially if you have an actual job and are on your feet constantly. Some people just feel like there has to be more to life......I'm getting there

But no, people are discussing the 40 hour work week due to it sucking. It's not just because of this video.

Thanks Henry Ford.

jeez. I was putting in 70 hours a week when I got a "grown up" job after college. I still do during by busy season. Wonder if I can get some sort of past performance credit and hang it up now.

I actually loved working when I was a kid. Delivering newspapers at 9 y/o, at a deli counter when I was 16,etc

I just clicked on the link and it worked fine🤷‍♂️
My first job was door knocking to hand out fliers for subscription life insurance plans. If nobody answered, I could leave it at the door. I think I got a nickel for each flier, a dollar if they called for a quote, and five bucks if they bought a policy. First job as a teenager was delivering Chinese food. They wouldn't let me do anything in the kitchen since I was under 18 which meant that if deliveries were slow I was pushing a mop or scrubbing down the bathrooms for $3.25 hr.

You're not wrong there. I've never been one to ever want to live to work and not enjoy my downtime. Maybe it is a generational thing and if they find a way to change things, more power to them.

I work for a company now, switched last May, that before, you couldn't get a job full time. They still have the temp company onsite, but it's rarely used. Excellent pay, I can literally work any overtime I want, unbelievable benefits, and a pension. It blows my mind at the turn around now, and it's 99.9 percent young people. They'll work maybe a month, and quit, or train on day shift, and quit within a week of night shift. I get it sucks, but you're hardly finding a job with a pension now, definitely in manufacturing. Insurance is unbelievable, bonus every year, raises until you hit top pay, then you get another bonus if you're at top pay. I started out with 3 weeks vacation, 40 hours sick time, 40 hours personal time, 48 hours of floating holidays. This year, helps in my situation with my wife, they added 10 paid days for caregiver. If you have someone sick, in the hospital, etc. And extended bereavement time to 30 days off, with pay. 16 week maternity leave for a woman, and 12 weeks for the man, paid. There's more stuff, just saying all that, because there's nowhere here like that, and people will not stay. On top of all of that, it's the easiest job I've ever had in my life, literally.

Unfortunately, most of the ones I've encountered think change comes through handouts. I don't mind someone getting a handout so long as I am not the one paying for it.

LOL. If you think 40 hours is too much you very much should be thanking Henry Ford. He was the first to introduce a 5 day work week that was 8 hours a day. typically before Henry Ford it was 6 10 hour days.

but I guess that means the Boomers are soft too because they didn't work as much as their grandparents. The exact same arguments were being made when Henry Ford introduced the 5 8s vs the 6 10s. Loss of production was too much, machines are just making people lazy, profits were going to drop, etc etc. after less than a decade of its implementation it had taken over and there was no big drop off.

from a link in the article. How dare kids these days want to be happier, and make the company more money.

"It found that after a year testing out the shortened week, it remained a resounding success.

Workers were more efficient, even as work intensity dipped. They worked less, and were able to better maintain their work-life balance. Revenue at firms participating grew by 15%, and a third of employees said they were less likely to leave their jobs. "

its a win win all around. employee has more time to themselves. company makes more money. has less turnover. I would imagine it also helps with missed time.

Well she and those that agree with her should start their own firms and set the rules.

Kids should work so that they get used to it. That should be super obvious.

work is fun when you're used to it.

just like that Henry Ford guy who thought that people would be productive only working 40 hours a week, and having a two day weekend. How are companies going to stay afloat on that business model when people are used to 60 hour weeks?

Maybe these millennials will be as successful as Ford. They should stop complaining and get to changing things by starting their own companies.
