The "official" Lost thread

He may be the one in full ceremonial dress facing the smoke monster in the hieroglyph that was shown while ben was in process of being instructed by the phenomenon. That is to say an Ancient Other.

is anyone else confused about what richard alpert really is to the others? he seems like he's one of their top men, but not really their official leader. maybe jacob works through him?

I think he is a manifestation of Smokey, not not this Smokey

That would have been funny if Ben was judged by him though.

The best part of the most recent episode is that being forced to take orders is a fate far worse than death for Ben.

I just watched this week's episode again and what I want to know is how the heck whatever Ben did in his house summons the monster. He told it "I'll be outside" which I thought was weird. Also pretty clear that Locke knows far more than he's letting on.

You mean the giant cave toilet.

I was wondering the same. Water goes somewhere?

Im going on record and say Locke is dead but still takes form via Smokey, same goes for Christian, it just seems to fit now, Christian's coffin being brought here as well and now Locke walking around with the same calmness and demeanor as Christian does. Both use to be very torn, emotionally distraught individuals. The titles of the episodes are usually to the point, so dead is dead.

There certainly seemed to be some deception going on when Locke told Sun "I assure you I'm the same man I've always been." Seemed strange to me.

On your thought though, Mullet, Richard walks around with that same demeanor. Could he be of the same ilk?

Good point Sabanocchio Rotini, Richard seems to always be Mr Johnny on the spot and the whole ageless thing. The problem with Richard out of all the main players we know the least about, so we dont have anything to really go on. He is the enigma of the island so i have a feeling whatever his orgins are going to be it will be surprizing..

I could see Richard being among the first ancient inhabitants of the island...He knew the temple could heal ben...etc.

Didn't he have long hair at one point? (Richard) I think I remember him having long hair in a scene. Also it's worth noting that Richard has been off the island before. He was recruiting Juliet for the Others.

You are correct sir. he has long hair when he first met Young Ben he also left the Island to meet young Locke.

I really hope we get to the bottom of the origins of the Black Rock and how/why it ended up on the island..

Also, what the heck happened to Rose and Bernard?

Some speculate that they are the "Adam and Eve" found in one of the earlier seasons.

They weren't the only survivors to go missing. Also, we've yet to see the others in the present.

I think the reason Richard doesn't age is that he time traveled way back and he doesn't age again until he gets back to his present time, the time when he time traveled.

he also visited Locke as a child

I had forgotten all about Rose and Bernard....I dont think I can even remember the last time we saw them.

I believe he is one of the ancients. Anyone notice the hieroglyphs, they looked a little like the stuff you would see in ancient Egypt. This may not mean anything but the fact that he (Richard) always wears eyeliner has seemed to be significant. I know the ancient Egyptian males, namely the priests and nobles wore eyeliner, might be a hint......or just a coincidence.

Except for the fact that he doesn't know people when they come up to him in the past.
