About 2000, they gave use combo radio/phone. It was pretty cool being able to talk to co workers and techs, but boss would occasionally hit me up after work hours.."Hey man what u doing". It was just different from not answering a phone. Customers though it was cool.

Felt the same way. Long after the company started providing phones to replace pagers I kept my old pager. In fact I didn’t even wear it for the last 5+ years before it was deactivated. I’ve never had a company phone and made it clear I never wanted one.

The old Nextel phones, yep we had those. Hated them.

I had a Motorola StarTAC for a long time. Verizon wanted them gone, and I refused. Finally had to give it up so my wife could update the plan. Neat little phone; you could actually change the battery and antenna if you broke it. I considered a Razor replacement because of similarity, but went ahead with a run of the mill smart phone instead.

What really pizzes me off now is the planned phone obsolescence - companies only supply updates including security updates for three years or so. Not that they can't do better; they won't.

That's what I had..a StarTac..really not sure differences with Razor, but now that you mention the name that was it. Had a little belt clip and so tiny you didn't even know it was there. Or just put it in your pocket.

So my contracting gig is going just peachy. I finished setting up the piece of **** old ass laptop they gave me (it was fine capability eise it just had four years of user abuse on it) and knew how to attack the assigned task this morning. That task requires license server access on the network for tools. Tools I’d spent almost a full day figuring out what I needed and setting up

So when I try to log in this morning my smart card reader is broke. Thus I cannot get my credentials to validate. Thus I cannot get to any servers or the time card system.

IT is in self important mode and says two days before they can access it. I say works for me see ya next week then I’m not working Fridays!

And when I get the new computer there’s gonna be about another four hours of tool installs to do again.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
