Last thought about the Great Water-in-the-Microwave Saga: if you have any local churches/groups that are helping refugees get settled or locals who get burned out of their homes, you could donate it to them with a sticker explaining the situation. It's probably fine to use as is, but if they're interested, there's bound to be someone in their group who'd be willing to take the back off, dry out any remaining water, and check it out. $80 for a new microwave is chump change for many, but it's a huge amount for someone owning little more than the clothes on their back.
