Republican forces Alejandro Mayorkas to confront family of granddaughter killed by human smuggler in hearing calling him a 'liar' who is complicit in the border crisis and fentanyl deaths of '100,000 Americans'

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas offered his condolences Wednesday to the family of a grandmother and seven-year-old granddaughter who died in a car crash caused by a people smuggler fleeing arrest about 100 miles from the southern border.

The moment came during a heated hearing, as Mayorkas testified before the House Homeland Security Committee.

Republican Rep. August Pfluger of Texas asked him to apologize to the family of Maria and Emilia Tambunga, who died last month.

'They're sitting right behind you. They came here today because they want answers,' he said.

'They came here today because of the failures of you and your leadership. They came here because they want closure.'

Thanks Joe!

Americans have taken pay cuts each month since Biden took office

For the typical family with two parents working, their combined weekly paychecks are up about $200, but that money has lost so much purchasing power from inflation that it’s as if their weekly pay has shrunk by more than $100.
The average working American family has lost $5,600 in purchasing power under Biden because of rampant inflation.
Average real earnings have never returned to the level they were when Biden took office — it has been almost entirely downhill.

Those higher borrowing costs on everything from mortgages to credit cards and auto loans to student loans have further increased the average family’s expenses by $1,500 per year.
The combined effect is the equivalent of a $7,100 cut in annual purchasing power.

If you’re trying to buy a home today, the monthly mortgage payment on a median-priced home is 82% higher than when Biden took office.

He also has extended an invite to the 16 yr old shot through the door and his mother.

No invites for the surviving 9 yr olds and their families though.

It can't be racial if the victims are white. Told my wife last night, when the news people were ranting about the 16yo, that the news agenda itself is causing problem like that. While I agree that the guy who shot the kid was wrong, I wouldn't be surprised to find he'd lived in the neighborhood a long time, watched the influx of people not like him, watched black and Latino gang violence repeatedly on the news, and lived in fear. That kind of reporting sets expectations, but certain parts of our society would prefer to allow the societal divisions and divert attention to opposition news questioning voting equipment. We live in a divide and conquer political world, and then are "shocked" by the outcome. Maybe just maybe we should spend our time teaching kids and cops how to find the right address.

I haven't verified, but my neighbor was telling me today that we're back to the subprime loan thing again ... just a different name. He also said that if your credit score is above a number like 650 a new mortgage will have an adder ... to subsidize the expected failures. Not something I've heard before, and I have no idea where his information originated, but nothing this outlandish would surprise me these days. I know they are looking for retirement home preferably near a lake, so it's safe to assume he has been looking at costs.

Democrats Fear GOP Proposal Forcing SNAP Recipients to Work Will Cut Number of Those Dependent on Government

Just when Democrats seem to be growing the number of dependents on the government in a way they like, between COVID handouts and millions of migrants streaming across the southern border, they have hit a bump in the road in the form of a House Republican proposal that would require some recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP (commonly referred to as food stamps) to seek some form of employment.

As usual, Democrats panicked when a work requirement was even suggested, and responded with their standard mantra of “women and minorities hardest hit!” Leading the “the sky is falling” charge this time around was squad member Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), who proclaimed on Monday, “Cutting SNAP will lead to homelessness, incarceration and death for 38 million Americans.”

News creating news. Media manipulation is causing divide, hate and division. The media is clutching the pearls to create the sympathetic narrative, reality is they are glad it happened until the next story.

Joe didn't cause inflation. It is largely happening on his watch rather than by his decisions.

With that said, he has done nothing which slows, or stops, the inflationary tactics of his predecessors.

WE aren't back to the subprime lender days. That was a different set of circumstances than what we are currently in.

Your neighbor is correct that lower risk mortgage borrows will experience added fees to offset the cost of higher risk borrowers. This is a policy that was already in place. Biden et al are simply raising the percentages.

Covid and all that happened afterwards was collateral damage to get Biden elected. Inflation was guaranteed.

Joe has been part of the same establishment that has created and driven inflationary policies for about half a century though, so don't give him quite as much a pass on just inheriting a blazing fire ... he was playing all along with the matches that started it.

The goal is to extend home ownership opportunity to those that would be unable to qualify otherwise.

I see great similarity with Clinton’s 1995 “National Homeownership Strategy”.

This is true. Yet another example of a great Biden program, it goes into effect on 5/1/2023. Here's a link to a story. They were also discussing it on Varney this morning.

Biden rule will redistribute high-risk loan costs to homeowners with good credit

...and then poured gasoline over the top of it with his Inflation Reduction Act BS.

Yes, AND we can objectively go further and say ole Joe has been part of the problem for 50 years. Has the man ever seen a spending bill that didn't cause him to salivate?

Likewise he didn't cause wages to increase.

I'd argue he added inflationary pressures with his spending initiatives including the Covid relief, infrastructure, Chips Act and ironically named Inflation Reduction Act. In addition, his Energy policies added inflationary pressures so the whole of inflation isn't his doing but he certainly enacted policies that made it worse.
