Transfer Portal 22-23

33% from the 3 and 38% overall field goal percentage is not what we are in need of. She doesn't rebound 1.7 per game, pass 0.9 assists per game block shots or get steals. She's a guard with no assists. She is not what we need if the lady vols want to keep improving. Maybe she can replace Brooklyn on the scout team, but to come in and play in the SEC will not go well.

When our fan base realizes the impact that NIL is having on recruiting and starts contributing more and complaining less, we are likely to land some of the players y'all want Kellie to go after. Many of them have a price that we just cannot compete with because many don't feel these athletes should be paid. You want the best to come here, put your $ where your mouth is and contribute to the BHC or shut up.
Sounds like the BHC is taking the money that the Basketball fans contribute and spreading it across all women's sports. It is well known that out of the women's sports at Tennessee that the Lady Vol Basketball Fan base is is by far the largest yet it seems like the BHC seems to distribute funds across all womens sports and where they see fit. It is the basketball players that are constantly doing the meet and greets and appearances. I would like to know specifically where those funds go.

That’s a kindergartners take on her stats but ok we will see. Like I looked at her games and when she played extended minutes she did get 3/4 rebounds a game. Also averaged less than a turnover something we struggle with. SHE WAS ALSO A FRESHMAN. As far as we know this is just speculation. Seen nothing concrete.
Stats are stats and they provide a clear picture into how a player is playing on the court. You say a kindergartens take, but those stats aren't lighting up any highlight real. Tess Darbys stats are heads and tails better than this player on both ends of the floor. Think about that for a second.

I like the kid, just thought she had a ton of work to do. 6-4 is nice size, but she was going to need another year or so to get some decent playing time if she got much physically stronger, more consistent with her shot, and moved her feet better on defense. Bigger players take longer to adjust to the college game. That is a given.

Except you’re not taking Tess freshman year into your point. Compare freshman years by both to give a clearer picture.

Tess was injured her freshman year and hardly played. Lower leg injury, remember? You might want to compare Tess's first year healthy and she was still much better in every statistical category.

Which was which year? Her sophomore year was below and her junior year was slightly or by your definition much better.

Sorry It kept messing up. But according to ESPN Avery had a better adjusted season than Tess according to C-Ram. (C-Ram is the standardized evaluation tool ESPN uses now) see above attachments

If she’s consider a big sign we will have a tough season. If we sign 2 elite players and sign her as a 3rd I’ll be ok with it.
I don’t disagree but she’s a good add to our depleted underclass if she really is here. Again not seen anything saying so. Would love confirmation before this page tries to crucify another player/athlete. (Which is still not a good reason too)

I’m just looking for players that will get us to a final four, of course if she’s here I’ll be rooting for her since she’s wearing orange.

Ok stats wise Avery blew here out the water. Lol
Everyone knows that Tess gets playing time because of her 3-point shooting ability to spread the floor. Defensively that is where opposing offenses regularly attack because it is the softer part of our defense. Had Tess not been able to shoot the 3 consistently, my gut tells me she wouldn't have gotten on the court. What gives Avery Strickland the ability to get on the court at Tennessee? Not her field goal percentage, not her 3-point field goal percentage, not her rebounding numbers, not her free throw percentage, definitely not the passing, .08 assists per game in 20 minutes per game as a starter from the guard spot. What is special about her game?

Her athleticism which is needed, her ability to score from 3 and get you 10 foot jumpers. Which means shes not stationary.

Tess didn't get on the court as a freshman due to a lower leg injury. It was very limited to the end of the year. She got on the court last year as a sophomore because when Rae went down, we had to have someone in that spot that could shoot the 3 as everyone expected Rae to do. She played well, then went out of the lineup shortly and then was reinserted when Jordan was injured. So basically it was an unexpected thing for Tess to get near the minutes she did as a sophomore. No one knew that Rae would injure her knee in game one and then later in the season, Jordan broke her elbow. Tess benefited from her teammate's injuries, but probably wouldn't have seen many minutes otherwise.

Softball, Thursday night. And remember, all the spring sports are in season. Much harder for them to do appearances. I hope they'll leave the bball athletes alone when they're in season and the spring sports can take over.

Also, to a certain extent, they have to do what the paying customers want, which by and large is the basketball team. Did you see the painting thing the other night? The funds go to stage events like that and give everyone with an NIL contract a chance to make a buck. My understanding is when they get a big donor involved (like the Furrows at Mercedes of Knox) the donor chooses which sport and which athlete. Which so far, not surprisingly has been mostly one highly marketable athlete for the big $ stuff but not much the club can do about that. And it is a good start.

Bottom line, they helped keep Rickea, so how can basketball fans and donors be unhappy with them?

She’s good for a roster spot, like some of the people I’m waiting for some big names.
Exactly. This Avery stuff is a distraction, and an annoying one. Great if we want to give another TN girl a spot next to Edie. But if we're arguing over whether she might be as good as Tess, by definition she isn't relevant to our search for an impact player. The point is to upgrade the 2 guard spot, not tread water. If not a significant upgrade, why bother? I thought we were not going to recruit this kind of player any more.

Can they pretty please get back to serious biz of finding a 2 guard next week? And a back up post while we're at it.

Darby averaged 7.4 points a game. This player averaged 6. Neither is anything to get excited about. We should be chasing the guard from Iowa State. Maybe we're trying.
