Transfer Portal 22-23

Streaky shooter with the kind of athleticism we need. Was hoping she’d be in the portal. Have a feeling about this one…

She shoots solidly from the outside at 39% i think being around better players you can see her overall % go up. Also, she needs to work on free throws but project free throws to the rescue and brought our team up 7 % as a whole 👀

Yeah she is fun to watch. One of those players that is going to hit 3 in a row if she sinks one. Hope we ride hard for her. She’s the right size for what we need, has speed, a beautiful shot and potential to be a lock down defender.

Don’t think it bodes well for Texas that players are announcing transfers before their season is even over.

So you tell me what they did this year to help win ball games

What did Karoline Striplin do to win any games last season? Not a dang thing, but we see how important she was this season. Those young women will get their opportunities and no doubt surprise you.

BK in particular appeared to have had an injury. She has the speed and handles to be a great PG. Just needs the minutes and reps.

Didn’t say anything about Striplin but she has done a great job shows she worked had in the off season and who is BK

I am so excited about Justine having this summer to work on her game!! It is so hard to really work on your sport while competing.

I agree. For as much as people have overrated what she can do/how much she should be playing this season, I think a lot of folks on here are underestimating how many players like her (who were high school All-American, 5-star recruits) can make a huge leap from their freshman to sophomore seasons. Regardless of what happens with Horston, I see Justine playing a much larger role next year.

She left the team before the season even started for "family reasons". She hasn't been involved in any team practices or activities since October. Doesn't sit on the bench or attend the games in the stands. So, basically she's been on scholarship but not part of the team. The only surprise is that that she didn't enter the transfer portal in December.

to be as fair as possble VolBall09 was in a group who have 10-12000 responses re recruiting over the last three years, many of whom have inside information.

the board did much better in identifying players who would not sign with the Lady Vols.

on a side note Avery Strickland averaged 20 mpg, made 39-115 3pt, and 6 pts per game at Pittsburgh, BTW the coach was fired and the team went 10-20
Her in conference numbers were even better and she’s only a freshman with experience. Something we need. Also averaged less than a turnover a game is a major plus esp for a freshman.

Zyanna Walker Shooting guard is leaving Louisville and entering the portal. She is the number 38 ranked player in the 2022 class.

Did she have an injury or just didn’t play? Only played in 5 games this season.

Was Verhulst also a freshman?

Yes she transferred to Oklahoma. Walker was on our recruiting list that season and ended up signing with Louisville. She only played 16 minutes last season 6 of 10 from the field and 1 of 2 from the three. Why she played so little is unknown, but sure that is the big reason she is transferring. Same reason Verhulst transferred although she played more last season.

I wonder if Imani Lester was injured? She didn’t play in one game this season

The only concern I have is will she develop and have the speed and quickness to defend so Kellie doesn’t have to limit her minutes because of lack of defense kinda what Puckett went through this year and she was freshman to sophomore

Can the coach make a player leave for the portal? I would say an honest year end discussion of future playing time would send some players to the portal.
All scholarships are only guaranteed for a year at a time. The coach always has the option not to renew the scholarship

I hear you, I've had the same concerns. But here is her final Hoopgurlz evaluation: "Agile perimeter prospect with superior length slashes, finishes plays in traffic; drains jumpers with range beyond the arc; executes in half-court game, quick, versatile defender, rebounds and handles in uptempo game; a stock-riser in the class of 2022."

Played on the scout team week after week helping to prepare their team for upcoming games and Kept moving the culture in the right direction by being great human beings. It takes more to build a great team than just the 5 on the floor playing in the games. There are 15 roster spots and very rarely are you going to have 15 stars. When you do, team chemistry can be lost and a lot of animosity can happen because someone feels they are being slighted or not getting enough playing time.

Im honestly starting to think Jordan is coming back, and if she does, does that mean we start to “portal” over some of the kids we have coming back next year?

Players that elect to use their 5th year, especially star players, has the same effect. Effectively, players that were expecting to step into "starring" roles as juniors will now need to wait another year. Not to sound cruel, but it's a no brainer to welcome players like Jackson/Horston back with open arms even if it comes at the expense of the players on the bench. We were all worried about what the team would look like next season when the seniors graduated, and now that's no longer a problem. For the bench players, they'll ultimately decide what's best for them, whether that means staying or going.
