Ron DeSantis is privately telling people he WILL run for President: Florida Governor is set to announce in May as he makes his first trip to Iowa on Friday - three days ahead of Trump

  • DeSantis will be in Iowa on Friday and Nevada on Sunday
Ron DeSantis is privately telling people he will run for president in 2024 as he makes his first trip to the important early campaign state of Iowa on Friday.

Iowa would be a crucial test for the Florida governor. The state will hold the first Republican nominating contest early next year and, if DeSantis could beat Donald Trump in its caucuses, it would show his strength and viability as a candidate.

DeSantis has made no formal announcement about his 2024 plans but he has indicated privately that he intends to run for president, two people familiar with his comments told The Washington Post.

He has long been seen as presidential contender for Republicans. His trip to Iowa comes three days before Trump visits the state to campaign there in his first visit since announcing his 2024 bid. Nikki Haley, who also has announced a presidential campaign, is in the middle of a three-day Iowa campaign swing.

Nikki Haley says US should change retirement age for those in their 20s

Republican 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley said the United States should change the retirement age for citizens currently in their 20s.

Haley, former United Nations ambassador and former governor of South Carolina, also expressed interest in limiting Social Security and Medicare benefits for wealthier residents of the U.S. in an interview on Thursday. Haley's position on reform follows weeks of President Joe Biden and Democrats attacking Republicans for trying to gut the programs.

He needs to start day one by basically saying he respects Trump and pledge that he will support Trump if Trump is the nominee. Make Trump respond with a similar pledge (he won’t). Take the moral high ground and make it clear that Donald puts his own ego above Conservativism. Let Don be seen as the blackguard he is. The worst thing he can do is get in a p*ssing contest with Trump. Trump feeds off of that negative energy

Karine Jean-Pierre claims 'extreme' Ron DeSantis' 'woke' agenda is 'despicable' and actually 'HATE': Claims Florida Governor is 'attacking young kids and their parents because of how they view themselves'

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre knocked 'extreme' Republicans, especially Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, for their anti-'woke' agenda targeting transgender Americans, which she said Friday is 'despicable' and actually 'hate.'

Jean-Pierre was asked at the briefing to react to DeSantis' first appearance in Iowa Friday, as the Republican mulls a 2024 presidential bid.

'It is wrong to tell a second-grader that they were born in the wrong body. It is wrong to have gender ideology imposed in our schools, and in Florida we don't let it happen,' DeSantis said in Davenport, Iowa, earning applause. 'We have fought the fight and we are going to do more. Just let our kids be kids - stop using an agenda,' he said.

Don't quit your day job as a Wal Mart greeter to pursue campaign management.

I'd be shocked if he comes out saying he respects Trump and will support him.... we'll see if Ron is different than the other candidates that bowed to Trump after he hurled awful insults at them (like basically calling Ted Cruz's wife ugly, etc.)

I like Kari Lake a lot. I think she is smart and tough but I base a ticket on the history of previous results of when that person ran for office.

Overall this seems like a losing ticket but I don't think Trump wins the primary anyway so probably a mute point. He's too toxic, but not because of what the bleeding heart libs think but because he doesn't seem like he's learned a thing from continuing to act like a bozo hurling unnecessary insults regardless of the person.

Now that Cringe John Pear is press secretary, the days of Raggedy Ann weren't so bad.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ran independent.

You think Trump loses the primary? He’s still outperforming DeSantis. I’m hoping DeSantis can pull it out.

Democratic leaders want the party to Stop its Kamala Harris pile-on ahead of 2024

Elizabeth Warren has called twice to apologize. Over a month later, Kamala Harris hasn’t called back.

In a local Boston radio interview in late January, Warren was enthusiastic about President Joe Biden running for reelection but, asked if Biden should keep Harris as his running mate, she said, “I really want to defer to what makes Biden comfortable on his team.”

The incident and its aftermath, different details of which were described to CNN by multiple people close to the Massachusetts senator and people close to the vice president, has fed an ongoing breakdown of accusations and purported misunderstandings.

May the best man win but Republicans don't need candidates who will run like knuckleheads. Trump could've eviscerated Biden if had focus. Biden is horrible.

Poll: Donald Trump Sees Double-Digit Lead in Swing State Pennsylvania

Former President Donald Trump is holding a double-digit lead in the swing state of Pennsylvania, a recent Public Policy Polling survey found.

The survey asked Republican respondents whom they would vote for in the GOP presidential primary race if their choices were Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, or former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

In that scenario, Trump takes a double-digit lead with 49 percent support. DeSantis comes in a distant second place with 31 percent support, and both Haley and Pence tied with five percent support each. Another ten percent said they are not sure who they would support.

The survey then took the top two candidates — Trump and DeSantis — and asked Republicans whom they would support. In that scenario, Trump still has the advantage, leading DeSantis by eight percent — 48 percent to 40 percent. Another 13 percent remain undecided.

I agree. Trump's 2020 campaign has to be one of the worst I've ever seen.

Funny thing is he woke up after the 1st debate sensing buffoonery was leading to a Biden victory. By then it was too late because once Americans had made up their minds it was too late. He made the incompetent Biden seem like a sympathetic figure the way he interrupted him in the 1st debate. He could've let Biden talk and show how dumb he was. Instead, he provided cover for Biden's incompetence. He would have to do a lot of convincing to get me to vote for a guy who has lost the moderates it will take to win in 2024.

The Republicans have a unique chance here to nominate someone calm, thoughtful, not an ideologue in any sense. Talk in fiscal conservative ways, relegate the social stuff to churches and Legislatures....

Will they f it up? Magic 8 ball says YES

Republican congressman endorses DeSantis for President (even though he hasn't announced his run): Chip Roy calls Florida Governor 'vibrant and energetic' who can defend America against 'woke cultural indoctrination'

Texas Rep. Chip Roy has endorsed Ron DeSantis for president, despite the Florida governor not yet officially declaring a 2024 run for the Republican nomination.

Roy sent an email to supporters Wednesday saying that the next president needed to be a 'vibrant and energetic' and someone who'd defend the country from 'woke cultural indoctrination,' pointing to 44-year-old DeSantis as that leader.

While Roy is one of the most conservative members of Congress, he had already started breaking away from the MAGA faithful.

He didn't vote to overturn the 2020 election and was critical of Trump's handling of January 6.

In turn, Trump refused to support Roy's short-lived Republican leadership bid.
