On January 19 in Baseball History...
  • 1934 - Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis denies Shoeless Joe Jackson's appeal for reinstatement.

  • 1956 - The City of Hoboken dedicates a plaque honoring the achievements of Alexander Cartwright in organizing early baseball at Elysian Field in the New Jersey city.

  • 1972 - The BBWAA elects Sandy Koufax (344 votes), Yogi Berra (339), and Early Wynn (301) to the Hall of Fame. Koufax makes it in his first try and, at 36, is the youngest honoree in history. He won three Cy Young awards in a four-year span when the honor was only given to one pitcher for both leagues. Berra played in 14 World Series (ten world champions), he had more hits in Series play than any other player, and he was a three-time MVP for the Yankees. Wynn won 300 games and won 20 games five times.

  • 1977 - The BBWAA elects Ernie Banks to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. He won back-to-back MVP awards, but he is best remembered for his famous line, "Let's play two."

What do you guys think about having a MLB Fantasy League?
I have never played fantasy baseball, only fantasy football. How does it work compared to football since baseball plays series and football plays on a weekly schedule? Is there a bench and does your roster require daily maintenance? I don’t have the time to look at it every single day lol

I played a long time ago and the maintenance is/was super hi. It’s one of the reasons I had to give it up. You either put your daily time in and decided to compete, or you chose randomness, and that usually didn’t work out well.

That’s what I assumed. Sorry @mad4vols MLB fantasy is a no go for me.

I loved doing it, but I’m a competitor, and want to win. It’s kind of human nature. I had to pick and choose with limited time due to work.
Yeah I’m competitive too so if I can’t dedicate the proper time to it then I don’t like my chances. I had plenty of time to go through NFL fantasy. Had two leagues actually. One PPR, one standard. Finally won my PPR league after finishing with top 2 regular season finishes and top 3 playoff finishes the first three years. Go figure this was the first year I struggled in the regular season and win the playoffs. I had to win my last game of the season just to make it in and then had to beat the top 2 teams over a 4 week period. My standard league was a complete cluster in the playoffs. None of the top 3 teams made the championship (I scored 2nd most points) and the two teams that made it finished 7th and 8th in points scored on the season. NFL fantasy playoffs are always chaotic in the leagues I play in apparently.

Yeah, you’ve got to have the knowledge, and you do, but the randomness of sports in general is unique.
