I agree… Tank Bigsby is a beast behind that crappy auburn line. Tennessee could replace small pretty easily. Solid player but most coaches would tell you the same after comparing running backs and line movement
From a talent standpoint, true.
From a leadership and culture standpoint,,
No and that’s probably why he hasn’t been

He's been a favorite of the staff since they got to UT. He's done nothing but buy in, work hard, and be productive on the field. When he's healthy, he is a really productive back. Even when he's banged up...he still manages to make some plays. I hate seeing so many fans on here discounting him and the positive impact he's had.

The only number people are ever going to see about this seasons defense is 63...that one game is the reason people are panicky about, and critical of the defense.
And it's a knee jerk, lazy reaction.

I felt then, and I believe it's proven now, that that game was an anomaly. I believe the players were believing their hype, reading their press, and lost that focus and edge they had all season (because the talent wasn't there to sleep walk like Georgia could). They were listening to the coaches after that game and it showed.

The program will benefit long term from the learning lesson that game provided (from the humbling through humiliation)

I’m not sure about this. Milton seems to set his sights on one guy and that appears to be White.

Hope that changes but I believe Milton’s first 5 pass attempts of the game were to White. Seems he gets fixated on one player.
It was pretty evenly spread around….. squirrel had the most targets at 10…. Keyton with 8 and Bru with 7.

If we were #1 he would still be bitching and saying it needs to be better.

The bottom line is...the defense improved...a lot..despite the stupid yardage numbers.
I think the line play and the linebacker play were pretty decent most of the year. Yes, everyone on defense was bad for that one game, but overall, I think those guys did good. I don't feel the same can be said of the secondary. So now we're looking at freshmen to come in and fix it. I guess we'll see.

Almost everyone we had in that secondary was below a 90 composite in rankings and many were around 85. I know rankings don't mean everything, but I think we have a very poor roster there (thanks gump DB guru!). I do think the talent gap could be notable with these new guys.

Yet according to AP, we're not looking for secondary help from the portal. That means it rests on the freshmen to fix our secondary. That's a lot to ask of freshmen.

I think it's a combo of freshman and feeling there are a couple DBs that will develop and improve for next year (the Theo Jackson thing). I was pleasantly surprised with a couple of DBs after SC (and a couple I wasn't). FTR, I would like us to find a #1 lockdown corner, but they have to be a fit in the locker room as well. CBs are massive pre madonnas.

If people cannot see that Wright was the much more effective runner, well...

Wright got less carries because he put the ball on the ground more and Small was better at pass pro.

I will be glad when this situation no longer exists. We need RBs that can do it all like with other elite programs. The program and team deserve that. I see that in Sampson as he develops since he got better at pass pro later in the season and will add good weight this offseason. I hope to see it in others.
Y’all really going to worry about this when we have the #1 offense?

I have a feeling the secondary is going to look a lot better next year. For one, I really like the DB's we have coming in, but more importantly I think the pass rush is going to take a leap next year. Byron Young is gone, but Baron/Harrison will progress a bit, Pearce/Josephs looked really good in limited time that should increase, and who knows what might be added by Herring/Bradley/Weathersby. Add in one more year of comfort in Banks' scheme and one more year of Garner development to that and that can cover a lot of the secondary's weaknesses.

So you don't want our secondary to play better?
I recognize obvious improvement in the stat that matters, and don't be a jackass, of course I want them to be better, but I ain't going to bitch about it all day every day.

I think the young guys will come in and help, and the defense will at least be static this year. If we can finish 4th in PPG again, then we will win 9-11 games.

I think the defense could be scary good in a couple of years...it doesn't have to happen overnight.
