Oh Lawd. That's a whole lot of woman. I do not know if even @mad4vols could handle all of that.
afraid i'm the old one: grauated from Sequoyal LL in summer of 62 and west high in 68I’m pretty sure @ArdentVol and @mad4vols are older than me, and @Volprofch05 grew up in the frozen tundra of upstate New York.
So did you play ball with Sandy Gillespie, Nic Arning, and maybe Lawrence House? I was playing at the polo field I guess late 70s. My little league coach for Rogers Cadillac was Jimmy Haslam. Occasionally he’d load up the team in the back of a company pickup and go for pizza. Lawrence coached the Toms. Mike Chase coached Copper Cellar. Also Herky Payne was one of my coaches.
Man, you guys had some good ones! My little league coach at Christenberry would show up drunk most of the time and would constantly hit on the moms!
One dad got in a fight with him and pulled his kid off the team.
On most occasions a couple of the dads would handle practice or games.
Now my football coach was a different story!
He was like the Bill Parcells of pee wee football!
was the running track named after him?Lawrence House, who passed away this year, was my coach with Tom Black for three years and my brother, who played for A House and later was its coach, reminisced about those year sometime in the past 2 years. Coach House taught me to keep a scorebook, something I always enjoyed. Sandy was a couple years older than me and was able to play LL in the theb7th grade (I think) and pitched for Rodgers and Co. or A House. I do remember that my knees knocked anytime i had to face him. My brother coached Bill and probably Jimmy. One of my cousins roomed with Jimmy at UT. Vaguely knew who NIc was and didnt know Herky coached LL
So you must’ve played for Toms if Lawrence was your coach. I went to Lawrence’s memorial service at the polo field this year. I knew lots of people there. Great stories and lots of old photos. It was amazing how many guys in their 40s and 50s still had their Toms ball caps. Toms baseball team still exists- our oldest was recruited by Lawrence. If you’re on Facebook, there’s a Toms page.Lawrence House, who passed away this year, was my coach with Tom Black for three years and my brother, who played for A House and later was its coach, reminisced about those year sometime in the past 2 years.
