Interesting and idiotic choice of words. Most vets I’ve heard refer to the Purple Heart don’t consider its award being “winning”. Moron…

You got a Purple Heart dude?

My dad was knocked out in combat in 1944 after the push in from Normandy. “Knocked out” as in the HE artillery round that went off near by concussed him and knocked him out cold but didn’t do physical damage to him. Lucky. He woke up in a field hospital. I asked why they didn’t give him a Purple Heart. He replied Hell he didn’t want one!!!

No. Only real battle injury was slicing my hand open on a sharp rock. Probably could have gotten one if I pushed it, seen some extremely questionable PHs given out.

The more apt comparison to me is how politicians campaigned on increasing the grain dole and expanding "rights" to more diverse populations that did not share the classic Roman ideals that made the republic initially successful.
