2023 Team Rankings

I think you have a poor understanding of the basics of D-I football. Heupel has done better coaching our players than the other coaches I referenced; the fact he hasn’t capitalized on this season’s success for more highly-rated players is concerning, and anyone who can’t see that is simply a sheep. Every coach we have had for the last fifteen years we have heard this same crap that stars don’t matter; if we had had more four- and five-stars we would have been back a lot sooner. Until we start getting top-five classes we won’t be reaching the next level. You know, the one where we don’t get blown out by SC.

We’re at a level now where we beat Bama and FL and LSU in the same season. Led the entire country in scoring. It’s a pretty good level. We had 1 bad game. Inexplicable, yes. But then USCe beat Clemson at Clemson. Clemson is on that “next” level, no? They’ve rarely missed the playoffs and won 2 NCs.

Clemson has recruited ten times the number of five-stars we have in the last decade. That might have something to do with their success.

I don’t even care about the recruiting rankings. Just bring in a boat full of nasty DB’s and Linemen that are ready to go to work.

Pretty much. Need the studs on defense. CJH will coach whoever up on offense go ball out. Lol

That topic has been covered on how they got there tho. In this thread, I believe

Funny, they didn't add any points to the scoreboard for Alabama, LSU, Florida and Clemson for having more 5*'s in the last decade than TN or USCe.

😂. Well you certainly didn't do anything here to alter what I supposed earlier about your post. So at least you're consistent.

Clemson won a natty in 2016. Their recruiting class for 2016 was ranked 11th and 16th in 2017 sooooooo what's your point?

Clemson didn't have to go through the SEC just to reach the CFP

That's not what Im saying and that's not what he is bitching about. He is crying because our recruiting class is ranked 11th. He says we won't catch up to our rivals, but we beat Bama, LSU, and FL. He also said we should recruit well enough to beat USCjr, didn't Clemson lose this last weekend to them as well, AND their roster is better (rankings wise).

Idk about you or anyone else here, but I've been miserable for the last 10+ years. Yes we all bitch and complain, but this dude is crying for LITERALLY no reason

yeah, i don't think anyone here would not agree that getting out of the SEC in to a 4 team play off is extremely difficult, and moreso than any other conf.

but being able to compete with the talent UGA, BAma, LSU, FL, etc...have accumulated over the years does not necessarily require you to match up man for man across the roster. and we proved that this year, as did USCe. but even with Clemson, they did recruit well enough and develop enough at very key positions...WR, DL and QB in particular...to beat Alabama, twice. that the ACC is not the SEC top to bottom is why Clemson was able to be a fixture in the CFP, no argument.

you have to get elite talent, but if your 3 deep is not littered with blue chips, then you have to find other ways to do it. for us, QB, WR, OL and DL...we've proven to be good enough with those things being our strengths. that we're not where we need to be everywhere else, we fell short, but like you said....10-2, and we beat all teams, save UGA, that we've been clamoring for the past 15 years. we're playing in nationally relevant games in November and have been a fixture in the top 10 for 2/3 of the season. and this team has been developing the youth on this roster and we are recruiting at an elite level right now imo....DL, Edge, QB, ATH....there's elite talent in this class.

we keep doing these kinds of things on any type of regular basis, we'll find ourselves with opportunities to win this conf and compete for national titles, especially when this thing goes to 12 games.

so any handwringing about being 11th in the recruiting rankings, w/out really taking everything else into consideration, and also acknowledging that the 23 class isn't necessarily done yet, and we haven't even gotten started in the portal....is, well...just kinda dumb and short sighted. none of this aimed at @allvolrecruiting

This is the silliest post ever made on this forum. Three of the four teams you listed above have won NCs in the last decade. What an asinine post.

I guess truth is asinine now. Trickle down effect.

And you realize we beat 3 of the 4 teams this year he listed. And without a bevy of 5*. USCe beat the other one, and they also did it without a roster of 5*.

They also signed three five-stars in 2015. But of course you conveniently omitted that part. More likely you were just clueless.

Yeah but you can’t consistent depend on outcoaching or out scheming better teams that have better players. That’s why Bama, ga., and to a lesser extent LSU have won championships. And when Clemson won championships they had great talent, especially at QB. I just don’t understand how people think the Vols can be elite over time without elite recruits. Hope spring eternal.

We have elite recruits coming in this class that is ranked 11th. The argument is you don’t have to be top 3 to win consistently and win NCs

Congratulations - this post is even more mindless than your last one.
It's a simple question, with only one answer.

And FTR, it neither requires your belief nor agreement for my assertion about this topic, or your posts, to be true. So carry on.

OK I'm done feeding the seagulls 😂

I think the lesson learned is having elite QB play is the number 1 thing for a teams success. Having a great QB makes up for a lot and then having highly ranked DLs, DBs is next. DJ is not good so with all their 5* types they can’t make up for bad QB play even with their soft schedule

You whiffed on his point.
and I made my own. Clemson doesn't have to recruit as well because they don't have to beat one of Alabama/Georgia every year and then win the SECG while also playing an SEC schedule just to make the CFP. Sure Clemson won the natty and I'm not taking anything away from them but the standards have to be different here with how we have to make the CFP
