What happened?? (Speculation encouraged)

Were they ranked top five and were we unranked? We’re either of those losses the worst defensive performance since 1893. I guess Bama comes closest since it was the most points since Sewanee in 1910, but it was still a 3 vs 5 matchup at the time.

Big picture wise this game means very little. It would have been nice to see if it we made to the CFP but our defense is nowhere near good enough to win a National Championship. That Bama game will be talked about for years. This game will be forgotten about in two weeks because it is South Carolina.

At some point the burden shifts from Banks to Heupel. If the defense keeps playing this way it's because the head coach either allows it or agrees with the strategy. The lack of adjustments was mind boggling and either they're clueless or the talent is much worse than we know or the coaches lack any ability to find better ways to use what they have.

Bad weather? That’s why we lost two games this year.
The refs and sec were against us too, they want Bama in a better bowl.
Jeremy Pruitt ruined this season. Heup can’t be expected win with any players that ever spoke to Jeremy Pruitt.
Turd will get back in playoffs with a few breaks. Wait and see boys.

Spencer Rattler had the best game he’ll ever play, our defense was garbage, and the offense underperformed.

Maybe we can beat Vandy next week. As bad as this loss stings 10 wins is still a really good year.
It’s hard to get picked apart by a third rate QB like Rattlier unless Something in the locker room is falling apart. Rattlier has been a joke all year until he comes up against our pathetic defensive backs. It a better year than I anticipated. So happy I didn’t buy Vandy tickets?

Get boat raced now as opposed to in playoffs. Our back seven are not good.

Generational loss-no it won’t be. Most points since 1893. At minimum it will be brought up every time we play them during Beamer’s tenure.

You can’t win the Kentucky derby on a country mule. We have a lack of SEC talent in the secondary. If we traded secondary’s with SC it would be a totally different story. Seems to have been the same case for many years. We play 10 yards off the ball in fear of getting beat deep. Rattler is not as good as we made him look.

Hopefully we are building a program and address these needs. Banks can be a shut down DC with the right talent. Had we not had Hooker and the receivers we would have lost many games. We were somewhat over hyped in my opinion.

Look back 2 years and remember where we were.
With that Said this one hurts more than any I remember.

I don’t think that Tillman coming back was necessarily an issue by itself. I did notice one play (at least) where JH looked like he didn’t even try to catch the ball on one of the long passes. Kesling mentioned it during the broadcast. He then walked back to the sidelines very slowly. They thought he might be injured, but he wasn’t. Perhaps Hyatt was pouting because Hooker was targeting Tillman. Chemistry can be a tricky thing.

Our secondary is one of the worst ever fielded by an SEC team. So a game like this where we couldn’t outscore an SEC opponent was bound to happen. But 63 points Is about 14 points more than I would have expected. It could happen again next week.

The real surprises to me are the LSU and Kentucky scores. I don’t understand them at all. No way any SEC team this year should score that few points on this defense.

What happened to our defense?? Banks didnt play. Offense wasn’t good either. Hooker kept underthrowing receivers. I know we gave up 24 to Mizzou last week but we turned it around. What happened today?

It appears we are not a good road team, Only good game we played on the road this yr is lsu

Yep would have been cool to make it to CFP. Everybody saw our defense was terrible especially in the secondary all season. Offense has bailed them out. Also the defense didn’t force any turnovers last night which had helped the defense looked better than it actually was.

Thats obviously glaring. We play zone constantly, which means our guys can't grasp more complex coverages or don't have the skills to. We play zone all game every game. Teams consistantly throw in between the layers for big completions. We despartely need better secondary players

or better defensive schemes

I disagree with the takes saying this is just 1 game and does not matter in the bigger scheme of things as we go beyond this season. Beamer is building a program which we have to recruit against...especially talent in/around the Carolinas.

Nobody cares about South Carolina. If we are worrying about recruiting with them then we have bigger issues. We need to focus on Bama, FL and UGA and stealing those recruits.

Tim Banks failed to prepare the defense...again and this time the Offense wasn't able to hide the at fact by being at home.
I don't see it as a lack of preparation. I see it as a talent problem. We've got an average DL at best. LB and DB's aren't even average. Some of them don't belong in the SEC. Coaches can teach and prepare, but when you don't have the athletes to execute, there's nothing any coach can do.

There was certainly something going on with the back 7 of the defense.
The front four played decent and almost every time they got pressure, they were blatantly held.
The LB’s and secondary gave little effort for the most part.

I didnt see much pressure at all. Thars why rattler had such a good game

... We play 10 yards off the ball in fear of getting beat deep. ....
I never have been able to wrap my head around this philosophy. I'm nowhere near an Xs and Os type of person or DC material, but; several 10 yd plays equals getting beat deep. It just gives the opponent TOP. I'd rather make them beat me deep and then just have a shootout, best offense wins.

Worst game mismanagement by a defense ever. Almost looked intentional.

blitzing has covered up a lot of our poor d play, but as you said very very little blitzing. re watch the ky game, the only reason we stopped ky was blitzing. Just dont understand why blitzing was not in our game plan last night
