Overconfidence - We are 3 last second plays away from being 3-3

We are all admittedly on cloud 9 right now. For many of us younger fans, this is the best time to be a Vol fan in our lifetime. Saturday was no doubt euphoric. That said, I’ve read a lot and listened to some fans on social media and radio and many are acting as if we are now invincible. This is only a segment of fans but it seems to be a big portion. Too many of us are partaking of the RAT POISON!

Crash and burn is the worst feeling. While I don’t believe that is going to happen, we have to remember that we have literally won 3 games on the last play of the game. While UGA is the biggest game left and will be our final real obstacle before the SECCG, we gotta take KY seriously as well. Why are so many overlooking them? They have a bunch of dudes that will play on Sundays, 2 weeks to rest, a stout D, and have the best RB in the league. We only beat them by 3 last year (and we likely would have lost if the refs had caught the Levis face mask). There’s a reason the line is only -5.5. We all saw Missouri almost pulled an upset on UGA.

Perspective is important. We are one QB injury away from disaster. So for those who believe they should just go ahead and hand us the title, I simply suggest to enjoy this time but slow your roll so we all don’t look like fools to the world if we slip up. Other SEC fan bases would love nothing more than to see us crash and burn now. That said, I believe we are the best team in the country and this ride is amazing! I will talk so much smack come December if we get to and win in Atlanta. But for now, one week at a time is the way to get to the promised land.

GBO!

It’s a game of inches. In 98 we struggled to beat Syracuse and it took a freak fumble against Arkansas to preserve our season. Go and look at all championships and you’ll find the same thing. Enjoy the ride it could end without warning

I disagree about the "overconfidence" part. I think most fans are euphoric about the completely unexpected 6-0 start. The style, play, improvement and attitude of this entire football team has awakened an entire fan base. I would call it "renewed hope", "excitement", "euphoria", or whatever. Fill in the blank. I would not call it "overconfidence."

Football is a game of inches, a game of close calls and last-minute plays. You can take almost any national championship team, or "almost" national championship team and pick a few plays here and there during the season that made a huge difference.

Let's not forget the 1998 Vols were a couple of plays from starting 0-2, not to mention the Arkansas game.
I somewhat agree with the poster though. We are just a few plays from being 3-3 but we didn't. I think what he is seeing is the same thing I do. Our pass d is what has kept some teams in the game. You look at our wins 3 blow outs and 3 one score games. I know you won't have a perfect team on offense and defense but we are so close to having it if we could cover a pass. If coach can keep this play style together and sure up the pass d we would dominate and it would be close. I can't wait to see it because we are still lacking depth on d and when we do it will be on like donkey Kong for the Natty's every year.

Completely agree. While the development of many players and positions for this team have been phenomenal, we're so thin in the secondary. Recruiting should shore up the pass d like you said.

We are one qb injury away from disaster, we might very easily be 3-3 this year, and we probably should've lost to kentucky last year....but you think we are the best team in the country?

I agree (and I think our team would agree) that we can't overlook anyone, but this post is all over the map.
We may wind up the best team in the country. No team at his point can say they will be the best team at the end of the year.

For everything that is good, just enjoy being undefeated! We were maybe 4 plays away from not winning the national championship in 1998! The teams that take advantage of the breaks have a better chance of winning. We now do thid as opposed to the last 15 years.

Only at UT would some fans be stupid enough to tear up their own field and the following week Hendon Hooker blows out a knee or ankle after slipping in a hole or on loose sod that was thrown down to cover the holes left by those dumbasses.

Geez…

While I understand your sentiment poster. At age 68 I've seen many times that UT came up short. Maybe we have turned the corner. Enjoy the ride I know I am.

Two of those three games we didn't even play up to half of our potential.

As for the Bama game, we were missing our #1 receiver and multiple DBs. Plus, it's Bama. So a win is all that matters.

It drives me crazy that here we have an undefeated #3 ranked team in the country with hardly any depth and a bunch of 3 stars and transfer portal players and we are kicking major ass and somebody has got to bitch or complain about it?!?!...SERIOUSLY?!?...Dude go troll sombody else's board...My god

Tennessee made a lot of mistakes to keep Pitt in the game. Florida had a career game from AR. Tennessee made enough plays to beat Alabama despite playing a bad 2nd & 3rd Qtr. Why do Vol fans have to be so negative all the time?

I promise, while some fans may be overlooking and underrating some opponents, the coaches and players are not. They have taken a 1 week approach all year. I have commented to several people about this, while a lot of coaches say it, Tennessee actually demonstrates the players have bought into the approach. They will take UT Martin just as serious as they took Bama, just as serious as they will take UK, just as serious as they take UGA, etc. Everybody has their heads on straight, and the leadership on the team and from the coaches is absolutely stellar.

This team has gotten better week by week this year. Win in OT against Pitt. Win a close game against the gators a team that always finds a way to beat us but not this time. Dominate a good LSU team. Then went toe to toe with Alabama and ripped their heart out with no time left on the clock. This team grew up last Saturday right before our eyes.

Yo homer, clearly you don’t understand sports. We won on a last second FG in game one of 98, an overtime FG to win game two, a fumble with seconds left to win game 9, and that doesn’t include highly contested other games which included the SEC Championship game and the National Title game! And yes, they still handed us a Natty that year. So, shut up and enjoy!
