Forgive Student Loans?

You are for achieving it through dishonest means. We aren't in a state of emergency.
The entire idea of worrying about dishonesty in how your own money is given back to you is laughable. Government is a (often defensible) theft of what is yours. It's all dishonest. Honesty/dishonesty is a somewhat irrelevant consideration in terms of the social contract.

Let me simplify:

When you sign a loan contract, you agree to borrow money with the promise to pay it back at an agreed interest rate, over an agreed time.

Get your degree, work your ass off, live within your means, pay off your debt. If that's not possible with your plan, maybe college isn't really for you. There are tons of other options.
When banks get federal backing so that they face no risk in making the loans, it's not a private contract. The feds can do what they want. I support forgiveness if they think it's in the public interest.

There is no such thing as a social contact, that’s just a phrase takers like to use in justifying their sucking the blood from the producers.

It’s not in the best interest of the public who weren’t morons and took on mountains of debt for a worthless degree.

The program was stupid. The banks were stupid. The universities were stupid.
I hold them all more responsible for their stupidity than an 18 year old kid and I think universities and banks should feel some of the pain.

Yea it’s like signing a contract to join the military and deciding it’s just not for you a week later. 🤣😂

I agree but there's basically no restrictions on federal student loans and that's a problem. As long as you are breathing air and can fill out the form they will fund you however much.

Geez, where do some of you people come up with this “I support forgiveness” bullshat ? It’s not forgiveness unless it’s for everyone, this is transference, transference from those that do not still owe or never did to those that do. It’s transference and theft plain and simple and just another example of our government f***ing up every thing it touches.

One can say the same thing about any subsidy. Farmers who can't successfully turn a profit get federal dollars. Banks get federal dollars when they fail. PPP propped up a lot of businesses that failed to have the savings to weather a public health crisis. Bailouts are part of the public interest in any government that seeks to get out in front of a crisis rather than do nothing.... what you think is in or not in the public interest is simply your opinion. I personally think a lot of corporate welfare is stupid, but it's not going away any time soon.

Whataboutism

Tell us you have no ducking clue what you are talking about without saying “I have no ducking clue what I’m talking about”.

It's 100% relevant when you are using/abusing over reaching emergency powers.

This guy promoting a version of real life ‘Idiocracy’. SMH

Education and finance institutions see an opportunity to hold hostage access to valuable professions and make generally well-meaning, motivated, bright people pay a king’s ransom to enter those professions. The institutions hold no responsibility for this backward dynamic in our society, right?

Guess America doesn’t need engineers, or chemists, or nurses, or accountants, etc. We should all be freelance carpenters or diesel mechanics. MAGA

I don’t give a s*** what you want to be but it should be you solely responsible for whatever it takes to make it happen. If you can’t afford it then tough s***. The smart ones will get paid to do those jobs you listed regardless.

You have a great point. What Biden should have done is make all federally backed student loans dischargeable through bankruptcy instead of forgiving x amount. That would stop the lenders and institutions from preying on inexperienced naive kids.

Huh?

It's due to whatever caused the president to be deemed the leader of the party, and congressional leaders subservient to him.

No, it’s due to the fact Senators/Representatives can hide behind the executive. If we did away with the 17th then Senators would have go back to actually representing their state legislatures instead of pandering for votes from the general population of their states.

Simple minds produce simple thoughts I suppose.
