2024 Recruiting Thread

Let's be honest. Certain programs are at a level where the name & coach combination recruits itself. Alabama football recruits itself, for instance. That's just the way it is. We used to enjoy that perk, and maybe some of us took it for granted. Just having interest expressed was considered an honor and bragging rights for h.s. athletes.

What's the old saying? Getting to the top is easier than staying there?

It's more like let's see who Tennessee is recruiting then put out an offer because that has been the theme lately.

A true Lady Vol fan. I just saw a post where the Lady Vol's have offered 23 different players. It would be hard to not have an overlap when one team offers everybody worth getting.

Phil Fulmer could say Amen to that.

Well, saying successful programs recruit themselves, which is true, sort of refutes the old saying. 🙂

It's actually 21 if you count the team logos listed!

Justice is a 6'2" forward from TX. Her mother played for Baylor. Ranked #21 by ESPN 96 scout's grade.

Justice Carlton 6’2” F from Tx. Ranked #21 by Hoopgurlz for 2024 . Having a top 20 list of schools of interest is more about bragging than seriousness in my opinion ?

The recruit playing with her is on our radar also.
Aaliyah Chavez 5’8” Pg. from Tx. Ranked #3 by Hoopgurlz 2025…. Already has an offer from UT!

Seriously. Imari Berry, Quadence Samuels, Ashlyn Shade Kk Arnold, Madison Booker, etc. It's more like let's see who Tennessee is recruiting then put out an offer because that has been the theme lately.

Zany. I'm quite sure that /hasn't/ been the theme for a long time.

Right, because after years and years and years of out-recruiting Tennessee the UConn staff decided they needed to pay closer attention to which players Tennessee was recruiting? Why? Dumbest take ever. Ever. It's more likely Tennessee has been following UConn's stellar recruiting.

Of all the players you mention, only Samuels was a player UConn jumped in on late in the recruiting cycle. The reason for that was probably because the UConn staff realized they weren't getting Booker. They also really liked what they saw in Samuels at AAU events. Says very little about Tennessee that UConn was able to jump in late and win her commitment in a couple of weeks.

As for the other players on your list, UConn has been recruiting them for as long as Tennesse has and in most cases longer. UConn was the dream school of Arnold and she never seriously considered Tennessee. Shade's dream school was UConn. Why would Geno need to rely on Tennessee to recruit an elite player who loved his program? Make it make sense.

Berry has been a target of the UConn staff since she was a freshman in the summer of 2020. There was an article in January 2021 in which Berry talks about UConn's interest and how it is her dream school.

UConn has been recruiting Booker for at least a couple of years. Why? She's an elite player and everybody has been recruiting her!

Come on. This sounds like Maria Cornelius nonsense.

As ridiculous as that might sound at first, without Shea Ralph around anymore and with the budget issues Connecticut is experiencing, it's actually not beyond the realm of possibility that Auriemma could save time and money if he had the idea that other coaches were doing a great job of pinpointing the type of players he likes.

Or, it could must be that everyone wants these players. Period.

Tell us what the budget constraints have prevented Auriemma from doing? He's at the same AAU events as other coaches. He has traveled overseas to successfully recruit foreign players. One of his assistants traveled to Greece last week to watch the European U18 championships. He and his staff travel to watch High School games. He and his staff still host recruits on official visits. What are you talking about?

Without Shea Ralph UConn has signed the #6, #7 and #35 recruits in the class of 2023 and they may not be done.
