President Joe Biden - Kamala Harris Administration

Correct. Some at least want to but are in the minority. The DC swamp is deep and wide. America last. Everyone else first.
Once in a position to make meaningful immigration reform, no one does. Neither R nor D. Why do you think that is?
...and please don't mention Trump's wall. By itself it is, at best, a nuisance for anyone crossing into America illegally.

Not really sure. Everyone says votes(?).

Between the wall and increased border patrol, weren't the illegal crossings down to like 10% of what they are ATM?

I do not know. I am dubious of stats (from government and its agencies).

I liked the idea of a wall. I did some reading and could not find any effective walls in history which are not supported by guardians. And the distance between guards, barracks, and support staff meant a propely staffed southern border wall was impractical.

What false reality? I didn't follow you completely.
Perhaps "false reality" wasn't a good phrase. I don't think it's a good assumption for politicians to think that increased border security would be discouraging to both party's base voters. IMO it would be the opposite. Average Joe American from both parties would most likely want border security. Why put up a fence around your house?

In 2020, border encounters had dropped to 17k-54k per month. This year has seen over 150k every month with well over 200k in multiple months.

I understand now. Thanks for helping me with clarity.
In the post to which you replied, I attempted to offer this idea:
the reason nothing is done once a politician has power to do something, is likely discouraging to the bases.
Fixing the issue would definitely be something both party's bases would want in theory. Not sure either base would want in application, though.

The answers to why it is allowed would likely be discouraging to both party's base voters.

I wish there was sincerity in making the legal pathways easier and better.
How do we make the needed enhancements to the legal pathways in this environment?

The ideas I like are not politically attractive.

Briefly:
Hefty fee for immigration. Immigration moves from restricted, provisional, and to full citizenship. Immigrant must have a sponsor(s) who is responsible financially and legally (limited) for immigrants successful integration into American society.

I am of the belief that we need to make citizenship cheap and easy. Do all we can to make sure they aren't criminals. Our Ponzi schemes are about to be so upside down we need new blood. Otherwise the whole system collapses
Surprised we haven't had a Venezuela type collapse by now. I think the writing is on the wall. Especially when you have idiots raising taxes on low to middle income citizens in the middle of a recession.

I agree with easier (less bureaucracy and less political). I don't agree with cheap...depending on what the definition of cheap is.

As far as I know, we are the only country that's like this. Insanity IMO.
You may be right. I haven't looked into other countries immigration policies.

It wouldn't surprise me that America's approach is jacked up, though.
