Should U.S. Swap ‘Merchant of Death’ for Brittney Griner?

We shouldn't leave any Americans to rot in Russian prison.
That's my point. Why wasn't it a bug deal when a White woman was imprisoned over there, but now that Griner is the world is going to end if she doesn't come home. It should be all or none especially if Russia is getting back an international arms dealer.

Not to say it's right at all, just curious- is this a typical sentence for something like this in Russia?

Was there a State Department travel warning or advisement to leave Russia at the time she was arrested?

No. Harsh sentences for realtively safe drug use is usually only found in America.
Is this true though? Actual stats show that people in prison with drug related offenses have a list of other charges and repeat offenses. There is nothing like what happened to Griner happening in the US. At worst, she would be hit with a misdemeanor and fine.

Uh not hardly.. Possession of alcohol is Saudi is punished with a public flogging and multiple years in prison.

Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Singapore and a lot of other countries have long sentences and sometimes the death penalty for drug related offenses.

I just saw this- hadn't seen it mentioned what what typical in Russia in the other articles. Brittney Griner's sentence is in line with Russia's strict drug penalties – but how long she serves will be decided outside the courtroom

Again, not say it's not motivated by geopolitics but I'd certainly education myself as much as possible when traveling to some countries.

For example, I'd never steal anything anyway, but I certainly wouldn't even give the appearance of stealing something in Nigeria or the Middle East. I'd prefer to keep both hands.

If people gave a **** about that, then why are there two other Americans over there for the same crimes being fought for just as hard?

I said it earlier .. if it wasn’t a celebrity, we wouldn’t even be talking about her and neither would the MSM media , social media, or the government .

touche. My point is, if it's just some spoiled professional player who hates America. whatever, that's on her. We don't leave them there just because of that.

I agree with that but the question is what should we do? I don't think we should trade the arms dealer for her, maybe for all Americans held over there but not a 1 for 1.

No I wouldn't give up the Arms Dealer for her and I don't have an answer.

So here's a primer on avoiding foreign imprisonment:

1. Don't travel to countries that are long- standing enemies of the U.S.

2. Don't possess illegal drugs
Whoa whoa whoa..common responsibility and personal accountability are White supremacy traits so they cannot be applied in such broad strokes!

Not true. American citizens have an obligation to follow the rules of the country they are visiting.

Don’t like the rules, don’t go to that place.
Did you feel that way when Otto Warmbier was rotting in a North Korean prison? Did you say "oh well tough chit" he broke the law?

A little yes. As a visitor you should respect and obey the laws of the country you're visiting no matter how stupid they are, especially when you know going in how dire the consequences can be.

I respect any American who goes to fight in Ukraine now. Admire them. That said, they are on their own.

You can’t travel to another country, especially ones run by dictators, and expect the US to rescue you. Not for it.
