'18 GA RB Lyn-J Dixon (Tennessee transfer)

I have no idea if Dixon is the RB under discussion, but if so I think there is more to it. We were recruiting him last fall and he attended our Uscjr game iirc. There were a lot of thoughtful people who wanted to add him last year even before it was known that Evans would leave. He never played at UWV. He is a very good back. And we need another RB!

Well, Heupel is the one who built it and he would be the one bringing him in . . . so it stands to reason that Heup knows what is and isn't acceptable in the culture he created.

It's almost gametime. Our roster is still short, so we have room. Depth at any position is always needed, especially if that depth can also contribute in-game.

Not depth that will be a distraction to what is being built. I’m sure Heupel will do his due diligence, & trust if he offers a spot then he knows what he is doing. I’m just simply disagreeing with the “he has a ton of talent so we should just take him” mentality. There are plenty of talented players that aren’t good team players.

And as for our depth:

1. Small
2. Wright
3. Williams-Thomas
4. Sampson
5. Whitehead

If the freshmen can contribute, then I believe we are fine!

Problem is Small, Wright and Whitehead all have shown a propensity for getting injured. If that happens this year, that would leave us with 2 FR RBs. It’s obvious the staff wants another RB. Dixon would be a good addition. Nobody knows if he would be a distraction here.

I mean I doubt he'd be able to cause so much of a distraction that it would be a big deal. Tiyon Evans just gave up on the team and it didn't derail anything except it sucked not having him play.

Dixon is a bonus. We are already prepared to go without him. With him there's really only potential to make us better. And like, he was slated to be "the guy" in Clemson before Etienne returned. Dude got mad he put in four years of work as the second string RB to be usurped by a freshman.

I wasn’t thinking about the fact he could come in this season and play. And he is a senior. If the staff feels good enough to take him I am all for it. While we have depth we do have a few runners that have had injuries. Hopefully Small and Whitehead can stay healthy also. I think Wright and Thomas are going to be good. GBO!

After thinking about this if coaches want him it may be good move. While we have depth, Smalls and Whitehead have had injuries hopefully they can stay healthy. But him being a senior he should be focused, the would be a good opportunity as long as he is okay with sharing the carries. If he can work into rotation he will get his carries. GBO

Wright was just a freshman and played out of necessity last year. They would have loved to have red-shirted him. He played through injuries and started showing promise late in the season. I think Wright has a very good year and I think Thomas will come on strong at some point in the season. Small is a battler he will give it all he has got. Whitehead could be a good in between the tackles runner. GBO!

No one cares. He’s insanely talented and this is his last chance. He either gets it together and has a great season for us, or he doesn’t and we still have all the same backs we have today.

This is exactly what I was talking about: “No one cares (referencing him being a TEAM problem @ Clemson). He’s insanely talented…” I don’t think on a team that is just recovering from horrible leadership and culture you can afford to throw someone in the mix that only cares about themselves (not saying that is the case w/ Dixon or not, I’ve never met him or anyone who actually knows him, I’m simply referencing the mentality). There are more factors than talent alone when determining which players are a good fit for your team; as I said in an earlier post. I trust that as important as culture and family mentality on the team are to Heupel, I’m sure he will do his due diligence to determine if any player is a good fit. I’m just saying you don’t want attitudes like some have had in the past (not gonna drop names and create a new discussion on cancerous players not just here but on other teams as well and there’s a ton from the nfl that fall in that category as well). Talent is important, but it is not everything. I would argue that having a selfless, team first mentality is more important, however I know that is debatable and not easily proven.

An under rated benefit of adding Dixon - he has the talent to get drafted. Especially in our offense that would showcase his skills.

We need to continue building more representation in the draft. This past draft was a good start.

Also, it’s a selling point like Theo/Tillman/Butler for this staff to tell recruits AND transfers - look, we took these role players who didn’t little to nothing for years - and made them stars.

Call me a homer but I want to believe that this kid would probably recognize this is his last chance, and buckle down. I’m all for it. And I’m excited about the possibility.

I would hope he would recognize that as well, but let’s say he comes in and is #2 or #3 or even lower on the depth chart (I truly believe Small showed enough last year that he is the starter). How is his attitude gonna hold up & how would it effect the rest of the team? That’s all I question.

Between Justin Williams-Thomas & Dixon, we have stolen two running backs away from WV in the last 6 months

If there are attitude, off field or locker room issues I would be against it, as Heupel spent all of last year developing a team first mentality. You can lose team chemistry and all the work done to change culture if that is an issue.
Were under the 85 limit. Seems like taking a flier on a couple guys who will be gone after Christmas is low risk. If they don’t fit in with the team leadership then they’re likely to not have any influence. On the surface it appears to be a good take. JMO
