Gun control debate (merged)

The data and the link he is offering now on Austrialian homicides is skewed and cherry picked. It is unfortunate this is his go to tactic.
Your go to tactic seems to be to cherry pick who you accuse of cherry picking.
Spread your criticisms a little more evenly and they may gain a little significance.
Every person in the PF selects data that supports their position.

No they’re not otherwise in states with strict regulation there would be less shootings than in states with more liberal regulations.
They are and as everyone knows it's the guns purchased in the states with lax laws that are making their way into the hands of criminals in the states with the much needed stricter regulations.

Everyone knows the game.

So why did homicide rates increase after 1996 and why was there no serious decreases in homicides until 2002?
My guess would have to be that it takes awhile. Plus I have no idea what the other variable were that were in play in Australia during those years.

I've seen that claim before. The more you read, the more nonsense it becomes. For one he doesn't actually compare it race when claiming it's the best predictor but only to measures of poverty and drug abuse. The other issue is that most murders in this country are no between people of varying economic status but rather poor black people killing other poor black people.

Even your own article seems to state that this one specific professor is the only person pushing this idea.

The other obvious issue with this claim is that the poorest areas (not the areas with the most inequality) have the highest homicide rates.

Do you intend on defending your earlier claims that white and black Americans of low income commit homicide at similar rates? If they do not, your claims of guns and poverty being the problem seem to really be falling apart fast.

Bumping again for @luthervol

False
Gun Control in Australia, Updated - FactCheck.org
In fact, the most recent government report on crime trends in Australia says, “Homicide in Australia has declined over the last 25 years. The current homicide incidence rate is the lowest on record in the past 25 years.”

Actually, Australian crime statistics show a marked decrease in homicides since the gun law change. According to the Australian Institute of Criminology, a government agency, the number of homicides in Australia did increase slightly in 1997 and peaked in 1999, but has since declined to the lowest number on record in 2007, the most recent year for which official figures are available.”
J post blew this garbage up and posted the real numbers.
Thanks for the “fact check “ misinformation though

Let's do this....you show me where I ever said that white and black Americans of low income commit homicide at similar rates and I will take your comments and questions more seriously.

If you cannot find where I said that, (and you will not be able to do) then once again let this stand as yet another example of where what you think is being said is not what is actually being said

If they don’t, then the problem isn’t the guns.

If the white rate is on par with European and the black rate is through the rough, and even when you skew for poverty the black rate is far higher than the white, then….

How do you get that the problem is guns?

Busy, not running. I obviously have a little more going on today than do you.

Yet you have time to reply to countless other comments, including comments that were made well after mine. You're running. Even when making your excuses you never claimed you'd get around to it.

You realize you've got nothing, so you're hiding.

So we further restrict firearms nationwide here and the criminals just import them from Mexico?

Why don’t the states they’re buying the guns from have higher rates given they have easier access?

I'm not sure if you are unable or unwilling to understand.

Homicide rates will always....in every country......in every state.......in every city.....be highest among those who are economically and socially disadvantaged.
I am not concerned with any racial aspect you try to assign to homicide rates.
What a more thoughtful person would easily conclude is that there is a racial aspect to economic and social conditions.
But take the simplistic approach.....it's certainly easier for many.

It's stupid posts like this one that make you look unworthy for engagement.
