Tennessee Lady Vol News

We lost the 3x3 to Iowa St. I saw some good post ups by Key and a few nice long range shots by Walker. Our lack of team speed and shooting hurt us. Iowa St did well cutting and shooting jumpers as expected. It’s good practice for our players to get used to a quicker tempo and guarding out of position.

Frankly, I thought we'd lose by even more than we did in this particular matchup. I thought Key had some good moments until she got too tired to keep up. This is great experience for our players, though -- especially for the freshmen. Being put out there to have to be able to think and react as quickly as they can manage is a very good exercise.

Puckett missed a bunch of outside shots that we've seen her drain in the past. Wynn is very good at getting to the rim, but still can't finish.
Iowa State sent their best. We can say this is good practice, which it is, but if we’re sending players representing our team, we should send a team to win. Maybe Horston or Striplin might have improved this team? Other than Key under the basket, we didn’t score with layups, or outside, but Walker did make 2 3’s.

I hear you, but I definitely would have been terrified to see Horston out there risking injury when that arm could probably use a little more time away from intense physical contact. The 3x3 is pretty rough!

I'm pretty happy that Wynn and Puckett are getting this oppo to go against some of the best, most diversely talented, foursomes they may ever face in such an intense competition. They will be watching and learning and growing the entire time, and we both know that could pay dividends down the road. But yeah, of course my orange pride wishes our team could win it all. But I'm not mad about losing if the freshmen come away from it a little better for it.

They "deserve" whatever the market is willing to pay. Being the best at their sport doesn't mean anything unless you have a fanbase that wants to come watch you. We've already established that the WNBA fanbase is way below their expectations for what they are entitled to, and they are deluded. The top pro bowler doesn't make as much as NBA players either. There is little difference between the situation the top PBA players are in vs. the WNBA players...except the PBA players don't constantly whine about being underpaid and they have a much bigger viewing audience than the WNBA has. If they want more money, then get more fans to justify it.

As far as dressing sexy to make a living, you might want to ask Liz Cambage how she's doing with her OnlyFans account. She probably makes more money with that than she does with her WNBA salary, because apparently there's a bigger demand for her scantily clad pictures than there is for her performance as one of the best players in the WNBA.
The WNBA has lots of issues, as pointed out by posters who follow it much more closely than I do. But a major factor for the WNBA is alluded to above. Many people have minimal interest in women's team sports no matter what because they much prefer to objectify women as sexual objects than to appreciate their athleticism, development as a player, or team work.

I’m glad they’re having fun.

That's just not true....I feel it's more skill level...A good female bball player is just not as entertaining as a god male bball player...

I don't feel that way at all. In fact, as men's basketball becomes more a matter of which team can bring the most brute force, I find myself enjoying men's ball less and less and women's ball more and more.

I agree, however we are in a minority....people don't want to watch things they can do. I can hit an occasional 3pointer,but never have I done a 360 jam...

I know that there are people who definitely prefer MBB over to WBB for this reason. There is also a huge swath of people who just are really interested in following women in anything that is not sexualized. I am sure the porn sites have 100 X the viewership than WBB. I guarantee you if they put women in thongs and picked players with idealized body types and allowed a lot of contact, I guarantee you they would have bigger ratings and that is a shame.

Is WBB the only sport where people repeatedly and insistently have to let everyone know how boring it is and how little it's worth? If you're not a fan, fine, but keep it moving. Labor theory of value, personal entitlement, yada yada--we got it the first five times you said it, jfc.

So basically your saying "if you show naked people on TV,people will look"?

The reality that no one wants to admit is that the WNBA is not a success because women don't support it. Period. See attached graphic where 83% of women surveyed said they are not a fan of the WNBA (compared to 74% of men) and only 17% considered themselves an avid or casual fan (compared to 26% of men). Let's take this in for a second. 83% of women surveyed don't support the WNBA. But somehow, it's the fault of men that the league is unsuccessful and the players can't swathe themselves in Gucci and LV like their male counterparts?

Interesting enough, the results for the women viewing the NBA were 30% avid/casual fans and 70% not interested (vs. 53%/47% split for men). Bottom line is if women turned out to support the WNBA the same way that men support the NBA, then it would be a booming success. Hell, even if women supported the WNBA as much as they support the NBA. But they don't/won't, and they also have no desire to point the finger at themselves where it belongs...so instead we get "SEXISM!" AND "GENDER PAY GAP!" and "PATRIARCHY!" ad nauseum.

My point exactly! Congratulations to all those men, presumably you are in this group, who would rather look at a woman as an object, a collection of body parts than a skilled athlete. I am pretty damn sick of how women are dismissed and diminished in sports and society in general.

Then maybe you should be asking other women why they don't support the WNBA, because they are the ones shouldering the greatest load of the diminishing that you speak of. Nah, I'm sure you'll just find a way to blame men again.
