The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

This kid isn't AJ, but the Titans/Jon Robinson just shut the window to get a ring even more than it was after last seasons 1st rd debacle.

They can't wait around a couple of years for this guy to produce after trading your #1 receiver and the guy you brought in to be your #2 is going into his 10th season and is coming off a torn ACL.

Burks has all the potential in the world. But it's just that. Potential. They gave up a proven playmaker for a potential one. Just stupidity

More like they gave up top ten WR when healthy so that they are able to sign other players next year and are hoping Burks produces close to that for cheaper
That's what people are leaving out. This isn't just Burks for Brown. It's also who are the Titans able to sign with the 20+ million annually that would have gone to Brown.

Once cooler heads prevail they will see it was inevitable. Titans wouldn't, couldn't overpay so they got what they could for a guy that was essentially already burning bridges. He was all but gone anyway. The only way to keep him was to overpay
Some teams don’t pay attention to salary cap. Titans have never been one of those teams, and that includes the Oilers era. It’s a small market team without deep history to draw national fanbase like Green Bay or Buffalo. There’s always gonna be more lean seasons than glory years. It’s why people were upset with the playoff loss. It took a decade to get out of the last down cycle and things were pretty grim. There’s no way in hell the domed stadium money would have materialized 4 years ago. Titans are shrewd. They gave us an overachieving playoff run and two good seasons and used it to milk a billion and a half dollars from the taxpayers and now that the ink is dry they can go back to 7-9 win seasons played in front of a half empty stadium. At least we have soccer now.

Titans message to me is no need to plow money into Brown with a QB who can’t win it all anyway. Let’s start the rebuild process. Maybe can still make playoffs thou.

A lot harder to rebuild if you’re making the playoffs. Tear it to the ground and start over if that’s your plan.

Bud Dupree’s cap hit was 19.2m. One of my biggest reasons for criticizing the move (other than the fact that he’s overrated) has been the need to lock up Simmons and Brown to long term deals.

JRob needs to go.

That’s because fair weather fans see the trade and the player and think we did it for more draft picks, we got close to the same value as the chiefs did for tyreek hill. No smart franchise is going to tie up that amount of money on a WR when you know you got to payroll a whole team in order to succeed

That’s never been the answer, it’s not like franchise players like Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes we’re drafted #1 overall….No continue with the plan don’t try to tank for certain players, then we would be the Jags

You realize how big of a cap hit AJ Brown was going to be?

Only slightly more than Dupree for a lot more production than Dupree

Add in the fact they overpaid for the qb and they look like idiots. The Ryan deal still perplexes me. It is almost like they didn’t take into account he had the best running back in the league and was highly dependent upon play action.

If you're looking at this from a business perspective the message is with the wr market artificially inflated thanks to Jacksonville a run first offense can't and shouldn't pay top three wr money. What AJ was asking for would bog this team down into a salary cap hell. It is what it is. We got the closest thing to him in the draft. And turned that into more picks which this team needs desperately, we made some really bad decisions in the draft the last few years which has killed is in depth.

No argument on Dupree we overpaid along with Tannehill

Honestly given the market for QBs I think his contract is about right. Outside of guys on rookie contracts you won’t find many starters making less than him

Worked well for the Bengals

Good thing we traded for the Robert Woods contract just to not pay AJB

The cap hit between those is a significant difference, I believe.

It also appears the Woods deal was done with the belief they would sign AJ, so it wasn’t done as a choice but as a complement.
