War in Ukraine

Every time I get ready for surgery or other procedure, I still think about having ether as a kid. About the worst experience you can imagine - the smell, taste, being restrained, felt like you were falling, being smothered, and you were sick as a dog afterwards. Now the worst part is the jab in the arm and that they don't let you rest longer when you wake up, and that's no big deal. That dread because of the ether experience is something I still can't put aside even knowing that anesthesia now is so different.
7 surgeries, the worst was with sodium Pentothal inducer and my Baptist parents in the room…woooweee.

Israel is not a charity case. It is pretty much accepted that Mossad is one of the best intelligence gathering agencies in the world with assets inside the governments of most of our enemies. I suspect we are getting our money's worth in the form of information from them. They have the strongest military in the region with missiles that can reach every city in the Mideast and nuclear warheads that can reach Russia. Israel is a good friend to have. Three or four billion is a bargain.
I can accept that it may be money "well" spent; I obviously don't know enough to have a very informed opinion (bring on the jokes). I can also accept, even more easily, that the money we are spending in Ukraine is "well" spent.
For 2022, if it were a choice of one or the other, I would pick Ukraine.

Curious as to why? You must've missed just a few months ago the headlines from liberal news about how corrupt Ukraine was. Now, suddenly, you guys want to ditch support for Israel in favor of them? It's really odd the anti war crowd, is suddenly all about killing Russians. I say this as someone who thinks Ukraine needs support stopping Russia. I'm just curious what changed you guys on the left in this situation only? Surely, I mean surely it has nothing to do with the bidens business over there, does it?

The left get really fiscally conservative when government starts giving away money they think should be theirs.

Ha that’s nothing compared to Luthers coming out of the closet as a war hawk and having the same thought process as John Bolton . . This thread will go down in VN history as the coming out of the closet thread . Title should be changed to .. The War In Ukraine and the Great Awakening .
😂

EU To Impose Full Embargo On Russian Oil Next Week, Will Send Price Above $185 According To JPMorgan | ZeroHedge

So in response to this embargo (or likely coordinated with the EU) Biden is planning on sending some of our oil from the strategic reserves to Europe. Again, someone explain to me how this is helping the average American or average European... or forget the Europeans for a moment. Why are we tapping into our strategic reserves anyway?

Yellen urges caution on Russian oil ban in EU, warns it could increase prices | Fox Business

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Thursday questioned the efficacy of a European ban on Russian oil and gas imports, warning that it could have unintended economic consequences for the U.S. and its Western allies.

Speaking to reporters following a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko in Washington, Yellen cautioned that an all-out embargo on Russian energy could ultimately cause more harm than good.

Also, looks like all of that claptrap and nonsense about not paying for energy in rubles is being walked back, also. Notice that the payment method that they are explaining right here is not some new scheme that the Euros have cooked up, but part of the original plan that Putin laid out weeks ago where they pay Gazprom Bank in USD or Euros and then Gazprom converts them to rubles. This article is leading you to believe that the Euros have found a work around when in fact they are trying to gaslight you and hide the fact that they are actually capitulating to Putin's original demands.

EU Can Pay for Russian Gas Without Violation Sanctions | OilPrice.com

Companies in the EU may have discovered a way to pay for Russia’s gas in rubles without violating sanctions, the European Commission said on Friday.

The companies would need to pay in euros or dollars, which would then be converted into rubles, although the transactions would also have to be accompanied by a statement explaining how the companies consider their contractual obligations to be complete once they submitted the euros or dollars.

I mean, is not the adversary in the game doing the same to themselves as we are: 'eroding our own economy trying to engage in this empire building and in the process are also creating more enemies and are gradually isolating ourselves.'?
Russia, it seems, has strengthened it's allies outside of Western Europe and already has the likes of China, India, The Saudis, Israel, Iran, and a host of other nations not going along with these ridiculous sanctions. Also, Russia isn't creating new enemies, they have the same enemies they have always had... mainly Western Europeans.

Meanwhile, more reality setting in...

Germany's Scholz Resists Sending "Quickly Available" Tanks To Ukraine: 'Could Lead To Nuclear War' | ZeroHedge

"NATO must avoid a direct military confrontation with Russia that could lead to a third world war," Chancellor Scholz was cited as saying in a new interview Der Spiegel when asked why Germany hasn't sent heavy weapons.

He also addressed calls for blocking Russian natural gas: "I absolutely do not see how a gas embargo would end the war. If (Russian President Vladimir) Putin were open to economic arguments, he would never have begun this crazy war," Scholz said.

No, we all get it. We all understand that to make an omelet you have to break some eggs.

Your argument seems to consist of "if you burn down the Russian economy, your shirt might smell like a smoke tomorrow when you wake up."

Yeah this is going to ripple economically thru the whole world to some degree. It’s just laughable that Ras/moe is taking the absolutely stupid as hell “just let Pootin have what he wants” stance.

You call it "stupid as hell", but it is the practical stance. What other choice does Western Europe have? They can't replace Russian energy imports (at the moment). They are finally coming around to that realization. The pragmatic approach would be to be more diplomatic and less belligerent rather than acting like a bunch of karens.

Either you don't understand my points or you understand them clearly but are gaslighting.

With regards to the Russian economy, you guys supported throwing every sanction you could think of on a country that is resource rich and actually has a real economy... and has a growing list of willing trading partners outside of Western Europe.

New meme?

You have been mislead. We don't need to be giving money to any other nation. It needs to stay here at home until at least the vast majority of our problems our solved.
Then how would we buy influence?
How many of our most important domestic problems can be solved by spending more money?
How much of our budget is for foreign aid? Does every dollar of foreign aid negate the same amount of domestic spending?
Does that include humanitarian relief?
