War in Ukraine

One of them, last year told me "we hate putin. we say we want to kill him"(referring to her friends) she said this without me even bringing politics up. What are they supposed to do? she ain't got no guns. she works at a ****in hotel and lives on the 17th floor of a ****** apartment building in moscow thats home to monthly rapes or stabbings/robberies. Theyre already cut off from any support at home and nobody abroad cares either.

I understand. Me... I'd move. A life without free speech is not one I would want.

I'll say this about the Wimbledon ban.... I think I'd be OK with Russians playing if they would publicly denounce Russia's invasion of Ukraine. I mean if they can't even speak their minds, why continue to be a citizen of such a repressive country? And, of course, if they simply support the invasion and refuse denunciation, then F em.

Seems fair, right?

No. Forcing someone to express a certain political view in order to compete is just as wrong now as when the Soviets did it.

I bet ya don't because I'm not avoiding the answer. If you had an ounce of sense you could figure it out yourself. But I'll give you a hint, does loving and marrying injurious to another?
Possibly, if the other is 5. Or maybe it's 7. Or maybe it's 11. Or maybe it's 15. Who's to say what the natural right actually is?

hell, weve tried doing the same throughout our history. its not just wrong, its pointless. Like loyalty pledges. Its regressive and usually viewed as a joke even by those who give in

I've got a pretty fatalistic view, honestly. Theoretically, they do what's 'right' and stand up to theit oppressive government. I mean, that's what we'd do here right?

LOL - oh you are a funny one :D

The sad thing is, I really thought that was true before but Covid and cancel culture through big tech has shown that people will roll over at the drop of a hat.

Even if they felt like condemning mother Russia, maybe their families would suffer the consequences of such a statement.

You are thinking too much like an American. Which makes sense because we have never lived in Russia (well assuming you have not). There could be consequences for the Russian athletes if they openly denounce the invasion perhaps? There are many athletes that represent repressive countries in sports but return and call it home.

Hmm... so playing in Wimbledon is a *right* not a privilege, eh?

Nope, it's not a right but that doesn't negate the fact that forcing someone to state an agreeable political opinion is bad regardless who's doing the forcing.

Should we make our Olympic athletes state that they support the 2nd amendment?

Should we expect our Olympic athletes to stand for the national anthem?

Olympic teams are national teams. Their anthem is played at medal ceremonies. They represent their country. Individuals in professional sports do no such thing. Unless you’re an idiot like LeBron James shilling for his country China.

Yes, I tipped my hand...by arguing that same point for over a month now. Glad you are catching on.

The rest of your post is untrue assumptions based on western propaganda.

Wow. If I didn't know better, I'd suspect you are a troll based in a warehouse in some $#ithole russian city spewing russian propaganda.

If you think the russian military could give the US military a meaningful challenge in a conventional engagement, you're nuts.
