Bradley was promoted because Ike and Patton didn’t get along. Patton’s attitude and mouth slowed down his rise his whole career but once Ike got to the top that put a ceiling on Patton’s ultimate rise. But hey he still got to four star.

Patton knew even before the war ended that Ike was going to run for President one day and told his staff so. I think Ike knew he had to keep Patton under a lid or risk him becoming even more popular than himself so as not to lose to Patton politically. Pretty unnecessary though IMO as Patton never expressed any interest whatsoever in political office.

And it was a mistake, in spite of Patton’s flaws he was a tactical genius, even the Germans knew that. It’s also the reason Eisenhower sent him to free the Americans trapped at Bastogne.

He was exceptionally lucky to never fight as mobile of a foe as his forces. A big part of that was our logistics around Patton, and a tore up Germany.

Well could be luck, or could be he was just taking advantage of the situation, but he was constantly putting his guys in bad positions. His flankers would get chewed up much worse than their counterparts with his rapid advances. The battle of the bulge if Patton was on the front line would have been a slaughter of Americans.

Patton faced Rommel in North Africa.

Yeah, Patton wasn't skittish about sacrificing men to secure an objective and (not that I can recall) commanded a defense.

You mean Rommel after Montegomery already had him on skates?

Amazing offensive tactical mind, but never really faced an equal fight.

The logistic companies behind him deserve at least as much credit. Not sure if the Big Red One served the Third Army but whoever it was deserves metal (probably has one)

If you take more casualties in a shorter amount of time and achieve the objective sooner, as opposed to a longer campaign which inflicts as many or more casualties, ...that is how you win.

The logistics were what held him up.
