War in Ukraine

This is a perfect example of the type of critical thinking most in this thread seem capable of. Really quite pathetic.
Go look at the Syria thread. I was for staying out. Yemen, staying out. Afghanistan, get us the eff out. I am consistent.

You are the one dissonantly condemning the US but justifying the Russians.

I want bad actions to stop. All of them. Not just ours.

Having seen Pinochet and Qadaffi and others who made that deal, there is ZERO chance that Putin steps down. Candidly, most Russians might actually seriously object to that - having their leader imposed upon them by the West when we arent even at war (yet). So given that reality, how do you see this playing out then and what is the best way to bring it to the best conclusion that is actually possible?
Or they just have an election, anyone but Putin. Kinda the opposite of what they have now.

Ukraine's desperation continues...as if blatant war crimes wasn't enough...

It is time for you and a couple of others on this board to deal with the reality of what is happening. I understand the devils advocate role but that role is now moving "Beyond the Pale". The old saying of "if you condone or do not speak out against evil, then you are part of it" is in play here. There is enough proof out there now for a complete condemnation of Russia to take place. Maybe you do not understand the pain of what is happening, for if you have not experienced it in some way, then it is difficult to know. It is time for this evil to be condemned by all.

No one hates Russia. That’s strawmen BS. We hate that rRussia invaded a sovereign country under BS pretenses and is killing innocent people
The Russian government is a bunch of thugs. The Russian military is a bunch of thugs.

I feel bad for the Russian people, most of whom are innocent victims of the above, too.

China is nowhere close to being our peer militarily. They do have ginormous land forces but navy and air force are still way back. They are working mighty hard to catch up, however and it is merely a matter of time. Beyond that, they are very untested. One thing about US military these days is that America is one of the few countries with a substantial military that actually has been able to rotate their soldiers into a live war zone nearly continuously in the past few decades. That has made our light infantry tactics (which used to really suck) vastly better. Now, in some ways, we have the opposite problem. The last conventional war was Saddam and we rolled that like a hot knife through butter. We havent really had to improve on pitched battle strategies against similar powers but as far as in the field experience, we are still light years ahead of China, where not one NCO or field officer has ever been shot at.
You have no idea how incredibly wrong you are. China is our ONLY peer currently and in fact is superior in certain technologies.

I work in the defense industry. Based on the developments we are pursuing I know which fight we are planning to fight next. It isn’t the great tank and infantry battle on the European plain.

The Russian people now hate the west and the US. Years ago Putin was as western friendly as you will get from a Russian leader. The chances you replace Putin with something better for US interests is laughably miniscule.
He wasnt western friendly at all. He was a snake oils sales man, whose job was to monitor the west while in the KGB.
Learn how they thought and acted so the USSR could take advantage and find double agents and the sort in St. Petersburg (pretty sure that's where he operated from).

Or are you really so naive to think that Putin was selected randomly, with no ulterior motive when the USSR fell apart? They just so happened to dig out a KGB desk worker from like their fourth largest office. Like they drew straws and Putin won presidency? No connection to his previous job, or his role within it?

He is a democratic statesman who wasn't influenced at all by his days in the KGB just ask Ras. There is only one way a KGB officer makes his way up the ranks during the Soviet Union and that was as an unabashed party first employee with cut throat tactics. It was not a merit based system or one based on experience. The Chernobyl meltdown was a microcosm of the sheer ineptitude and corruption within the Soviet

First thing is first, because this guy is known for using chemical weapons, and I'm wondering what odds I should give to finding him among the Russian dead generals? Everything says this battle is going to get very nasty.

So there’s no change in strategy? Maybe more brutal tactics. Gas? Tactical nuke? The Russians are cowards and an absolute joke in modern warfare when they face an opposition who has the ability to think for themselves.

You’re not real bright are you? If the West reacts as you say then Xi moves on Taiwan. And I’d rather we avoid direct war with China as compared to any possible scenario in Ukraine. Anybody with a shred of common sense would… which explains why you don’t get it. 🤡

Xi is going to move on Taiwan regardless of our response.

A war with China would be a sea/air/missile/cyber war. They take out our GPS we're done.

You are willing to sacrifice Ukranians because....Russia?

If the Ukrainians are wanting to fight, who are we to say otherwise? Either they are a sovereign nation or they arent. Right now Russia is the only one threatening Ukraines sovereignty. The worst we are doing is accommodating their wants.

I'm not willing to sacrifice Ukrainians, this could have been settled diplomatically but this is the fight the US/NATO wanted with Russia and they got it. Also, many Ukrainians don't want to fight and are being forced to fight.
