‘23 CA QB Nicholaus Iamaleava (Tennessee)

This way of thinking is outdated now…the days of Peyton manning and Tom Brady types of QBs who can sit in the pocket all day and read a defense is becoming extinct. Reading a defense is still huge but most QBs have to be mobile as well when things are not there
Just because you’re mobile doesn’t mean you aren’t reading defenses. Certainly not outdated in the NFL. Lol.

I’d try to tell the Quarterback developers in the NFL that. Hehe. Doesn’t check out for the veer and shoot system. It’ll never check out either unless there are massive rules changes in the NFL which will never happen. Change of hasmhmarks etc. But at least we can enjoy the Veer and Shoot here at Tennessee

A QB only has to be mobile if he cannot read defenses at an elite level. Stafford is a pocket passer. While he can move he usually doesn’t. People want to believe the days of the Bradys and Mannings are gone. That’s foolish. It’s not that it’s just the QBs now just aren’t on that level of reading defenses.

QBs now don’t have to be on that level because they simply don’t have the time to sit in the pocket…also acting like Heupel’s offense doesn’t allow QBs to preread a defense before the snap is laughable

Hooker was a 4* out of high school, and 3* Mac Jones was from Fla, he would be a 5* if he was from pretty much any other state. Right?

Hooker was a 4* on 247 and a 3* on Rivsls.

Mac Jones was a 3* because his best offer was Kentucky until Bama came in late and offered. No, we can’t assume he’d be a 4* or 5* from any other state. If anything, playing in Florida gave him more exposure. He was, quite simply, a 3* who became a great college player. It happens all the time.

I agree with you……..it was a sarcastic post aimed towards someone who always says that sort of thing;)

Oh geez. Picked a bad weekend to post and bail. Heupel is a great QB coach and evaluator and Nico would obviously be well coached here. I was just pointing out that the "he will have by far the best coaching here" comment was super dumb.

Crystal Ball to Oregon from Wiltfong

Such an overreaction to the Oregon visit. I have full confidence his mom is going to love Tennessee. I am still not worried about this one, but we’ll see how this weekend can go.

Being a generational talent QB at Tennessee > being a generational talent QB at Oregon.

Iamaleava recently visited Oregon and the Ducks look to be in a good spot right now. Oregon was his dream school growing up because of Marcus Mariotta who was his favorite quarterback. He had an uncle AJ Tuitele who played there. That was one of the only two schools his mother visited when they visited last month and she fell in love with the school. The only reservation right now is wanting to get a better feel for the offense and they’re going to be able to do that when they visit again when spring ball starts. Iamaleava is also going to take visits in March to Georgia and Tennessee. Those schools are very much in the mix as is Alabama. A commitment is expected in April.

Oregon has set the bar in the recruitment of Iamaleava and it’s up to the SEC programs to flip it on these upcoming spring visits.

6 confidence fwiw. Definitely a reaction. Though they appear to lead, it's obvious why.

I think that’s a fair criticism….
Heck of a territory we are fishing in though when one could say we failed...because we didn't land a top-63 quarterback.

Not even sure the last time we landed a top 63 player that was a QB. I'm thinking Crompton. Mid 00s...17 years ago.

Yep, agree. He may end up there, but Fong is going out on a limb trying to play the odds. Like @allvolrecruiting said, this weekend is going to be HUGE for us and Nico, and I expect Tennessee to have a very good view on where we stand when the family leaves. Do I think he commits while here? No, not at all. But I think they will know enough to know whether or not to pivot elsewhere almost immediately or to otherwise keep putting on more steam.

I said Successful in NFL, not college
I would say that the typical NFL fan would consider about 8-14 successful QBs in the league at any given time. These QBs are going to be drafted over more than a 10 year period. College coaches have little impact on the success of their QBs in the pros. They can sell getting them into the league and getting them paid, but the rest has more to do with situation they get drafted in to.

Mom loved Oregon, but she hasn’t seen Tennessee yet. Mom needs to love the situation and be willing to relocate there, but that’s no small task since she’s got stage 4 breast cancer.

When you’re a quarterback guru I’d think you should probably land at least 1 of your top 3-4 targets. Don’t you think? Or is the expectation lower

I’m not a anti Heupel mafia member either… just throwing it out there. Hopefully we can get the kid. Or one of the other two mentioned. Need the recruiting momentum they would bring
