War in Ukraine

You are one of the ones who obviously isn't in on the joke.....which I find funny.
I don't recall you providing anything substantial in not liking trump. It all circles around demeanor to my recollection. Funny thing is in person demeanor for Biden is either similar or worse than trump. The US status on the world stage is worse too. 🧐

Guilty as charged.
But I have made it a point to say several times -
I did not support Biden in the primary.
I always thought he was to old for the job and quickly getting worse.
That the 25th could be used and I would be okay.
And finally and thankfully - there is no way in hell he runs for re-election.

I always thought Biden was your spirit animal.

What is better for the Democratic party, in your opinion, the 25th or going the next 3 years with him in office? The 25th would be a huge move, imo, and would place a highly unlikable person in office.

I don’t think these sanctions are going to have the desired effect. They may just strengthen Russia’s resolve and further isolate them, which may preclude any possibility of lasting peace

Short-run I agree, unless they boot Russia from SWIFT. Then all hell breaks loose.

However, the damage already done to the oligarchs is real. They will now be subject to 'full blocking sanctions' meaning they are cut off from the U.S. financial system, any assets they hold in the United States are frozen, and they are barred from entering the U.S. Plus, the Russian stock market is crashing and the Ruble in freefall.

Once the winter is over, I think Germany may be willing to go the SWIFT route. But for now, they're still dependent on Russian gas. Seems like a good business opportunity for our domestic LPG industry.

Probably Biden holding on for 3 years would be best, but not by much of a margin.

They are done at the direction of the Russian government, who pay them as independent contractors so they have plausible deniability.

Expect the US gov memes to subside while the Moscow meme farms shift thier focus from infesting Facebook and message boards to more nefarious things.

What multi-party society are we to emulate? That is, name one that provides more protection of individual rights and equal application of justice in a constitutional republic? I don't see that society; it doesn't exist in CA, AU, NZ, or Europe.

If managing two parties is beyond us, more is the remedy?
How about none?

Nah, let's keep doing the same thing over and over. At some point it will spontaneously change for the better. Right?

It was an easy couple of questions. Doing something to be doing something different isn't necessarily doing anything useful.

What multi-party society is working better? The West generally is decidedly going in a Marxofascist direction. I voted for every Libertarian for years that wasn't a sanitation engineer or didn't confer with kudzu eating goats on economic matters, and realized it's an indulgence. There are some great fiscal principles in the Chicago and Austrian schools, but libertarianism as a governing model? Pffft.

I don't see anything but a leftist, socialist party getting traction. The socialist/commies have sided with Democrats for decades and that won't change.
That's what I don't get about the 2020 anti-Trump voters who aren't leftists. You had something different and the bureaucratic state decided you couldn't have it. You acquiesced and voted in the person and congress with the most animus to liberty, free markets because orange guy was such a shock to the senses. Protest voters talk out of both sides of their head; they want a champion of the people, but he can't return the nut-kicks of the people they say they don't want. The same people are taking a dump on DeSantis.

Maybe you folks need to figure out what you really want and stop voting for the polar opposite, while you backslap at the Regional Libertarian conference of 10 people about your independent minds.

NATO supplying weapons to Ukraine, including air defenses, from the border from Poland.

I am thinking Lviv and the surrounding region are going to hold out for some time. It would be curious to see if Russia would be bold enough to make bombings near the border, that is certain to escalate this conflict.

For everyone the Russians, Ukrainian forces, and any civilians not able to leave. I’m not saying they’re going to turn it into Stalingrad but urban warfare is hell. I personally think they’ll lay siege instead of going street by street.
How long can they do this, Putin is already facing pressure at home and from the international community. A seige is ugly and takes a long time. The longer this goes the more pressure on Putin.

US official: Russian forces advance but not as quickly as anticipated

Russian forces continue to invade Ukraine along three routes, including from the north toward Kyiv, although a senior U.S. Defense Department official said Russian momentum toward Kyiv has slowed in the last 24 hours.

The U.S. official declined to say how many Russian troops were on the ground in Ukraine now, but estimated it was about one third of the combat force that Russia had massed before the attack. Russian President Vladimir Putin had deployed more than 150,000 troops on Ukraine’s border prior to the invasion.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence findings, told reporters Friday the U.S. had information suggesting that Moscow had expected a faster advance on Ukraine's capital. The official declined to say how the Pentagon had made that assessment, but Russia has not yet captured any major population centers.

Russia has failed to dominate Ukrainian air space, the official said. Ukraine continues to fly warplanes that are attacking Russian forces. Ukraine also retains missiles for air defense.

In southern Ukraine, the Russians have made an amphibious attack, landing thousands of troops, the official said.

Elsewhere in the south, a battle is being fought for the Kakhovka hyrdo-electric plant that provides energy to Crimea and southern Ukraine. Russia has launched cyberattacks there, the official said.

We also had a spot-on 'prediction' by Biden that Putin had already made up his mind to attack Ukraine days ago, and that an attack on Ukraine was imminent.

Seems to me we've either got some highly level HUMINT or intercepting/decoding their comms.

Finland just gave Ukraine $50M in aid.

I suspect anti-Russian sentiment will groundswell now in Sweden and Finland. Putin really is an egomaniac to be threatening either country.
I get that they want to be in NATO, but NATO does not want them. If they did, we'd be seeing a lot of movement in that direction regardless of bylaws, etc.
