War in Ukraine

My point was sometimes Presidents can surprise everyone. Obama going into Pakistan for UBL was one of the few things he did I had high respect for. While I highly doubt Biden will do anything of significance, all it takes is the right voice getting in his ear and convincing him to make it happen. But I doubt we see that.
There isn't anyone around him that would remotely want anything like that done regardless of the scenario.

It’s crazy to imagine living in a place where you can see things like aircraft being shot down and foreign soldiers on your street corner.

I mean I know it is war and this is what happens, but seeing folks film it like this and having actual, near real time footage is wild.
Unless I'm blanking on some other conflict, this is the first war that has taken place in the smartphones-in-every-pocket era that has occurred in a country prosperous for most people to have them. There has been footage like this out of Iraq, Syria, Libya, etc., but not in real-time and not in this kind of volume.

Can you imagine what videos people in
Baghdad in January 1991 could’ve had with today’s technology?

I’m on limited SM, but has the EU said anything of note other than the obligatory words of support since this began? I know Germany is firmly in the fetal position, but France? UK? Anyone? Bueller?

Smartphones and videos that look like they could be taken in any random American city too. It seems closer to home than the Middle East or Central African conflicts. It’s reminds me of being a kid and seeing the Kosovo conflict on TV.

Ukrainian border guards killed after telling Russian warship off

Didn't see this posted thus far in the thread (my apologies if I missed it), but I thought it was one of those things that will be noteworthy in a few decades.

This and the Ghost of Kyiv who supposedly shot down 6 aircraft are going to be the generation of Ukrainian folk heroes.

Also I want that to be a Russian aircraft but I just saw that it was a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter being downed by Russian SAMs.

That war was known as the first truly televised war and this one could go down as the first one that was truly comprehensively captured on social media.
The videos I’ve seen from civilians are not like anything we’ve ever seen. Most videos we’ve seen from Afghanistan or Iraq were from our guys with go pros or Jihadi propaganda videos blowing up a humvee. Hopefully a positive unintended consequence will be to show how horrific war is to the local population and cause everyone to see the realities of what’s really happening.
