War in Ukraine

Imagine a country in which the current president has shut down opposition media and indicted his two chief rivals for the presidency on charges of treason. Imagine that one of those rivals is under house arrest and that all his property has been decreed forfeit. Imagine that the other (who has so far avoided arrest) is the current president's predecessor, who himself came to power in the aftermath of a coup that ended with his predecessor fleeing the country. Imagine that one of this country's major administrative units recently had as its governor another country's former president, a man who had fled the homeland he had served as president and whose term as governor in this his adopted country was interrupted by a period of statelessness, his citizenship having been revoked both by his own homeland and by the country he now served as governor. Imagine being told that this country is a beacon of democracy in its region and that America must come to its aid in its dispute with the nuclear power with which it shares a common culture and hundreds of years of common governance . . .

I neglected to mention that the current president of this fictitious country (the one who has indicted his rivals on charges of treason) was prepared for office by his career as a comic actor, that his political party is named after his most recent television series, and that he is a proponent of, among other things, free abortions and legalized prostitution and gambling.

I absolutely think this is plausible. Mashed potatoehead needs some kind of perceived political win given his failures at everything he's touched with the midterms approaching. He could claim he quelled an invasion.
That is the message we are getting right now with likes of LG.

"Biden stared down Putin and he blinked."

This gives its neighbor the right to roll in with tanks and bombers?

A proponent of legalized prostitution and gambling? Well now you have my attention. I didn’t know they’re into freedom over there.

Jeesh.

No, it doesn't, but, when we're being told we must entangle ourselves in a foreign conflict in defense of "democracy," we should inform ourselves about the democracy we are being asked to defend.

My wish is for peace. My sympathies, on balance, lie with the Ukrainians, but I do believe Russia has legitimate interests in the Ukraine. In any case, I want my country to stay out of the fray. We've shown in recent decades that there's no tyranny, no humanitarian crisis, that we can't make worse by our military intervention (by which term I include arming other governments and "freedom fighters"). Domestically, we'll be told that the government can't make good on such things as its social security commitments; meanwhile, there will always be billions and trillions for elective military interventions in other hemispheres.

Has the Biden administration propaganda gotten ridiculous enough for any of you yet? Maybe all of this is fabricated?
Pretty convincing fabrication, you'll have to admit. It all looks so real.

LOL

I know you don't buy the argument that Russia is concerned about their security.

Russia's (not talking about Putin) only security concern should be from islamic terrorists and China. Putin is only worried about securing his personal fortune and power just like the western leaders.

No, his goals are considerably more nationalistic than that. Why shouldn't Russia be included in NATO? Look at the situation between Greece and Turkey and multiply that by 100.
