This is a very good soundbite. It really is. However, it isn't always applicable in our system. Tennessee will elect Rs (especially in my district) for all federal and state positions. My non-vote does nothing to increase the prospects of the other party.
Also, how can a man of principles (me) continue to cast a vote for one party when I see them both equally destructive to the priorities I am concerned about? I'd rather give up my voice than give up my principles.

I got pushed into a corner in 2020 and pulled the lever for Trump only because I knew that the Dems were going to pull every trick they could with the mail-ins. Had it not been for the fear of fraud, I likely would have not voted for POTUS, but voted in the rest of the ballot positions.

I spent about 10 minutes (or it seemed like 10 mins) standing in the booth debating whether to leave the POTUS blank or just vote for Trump... or just cast a protest vote for Kanye.

My moment was similar to yours. I looked at McCain/Palin and got angry. I voted for the ticket and immediately regretted it. "Hate myself" is too strong but I did not respect myself in the morning.
