Did they have COVID cases, or was it purely due to injuries/AFCON?Liverpool was able to postpone their match for the cup match with Arsenal.
I know it technically gets more calls right, but it’s almost impossible to quantify just how much VAR detracts from the actual enjoyment of watching the games in person. Everyone is almost hesitant to celebrate goals, as there is always the spectre of VAR hanging over every decision. I went to Fulham/Bournemouth a few weeks ago, where there is no VAR in The Championship. Much more enjoyable. What a surprise
Don’t know if the video will play in the US, but what a bizarre ending to the AFCON match between Tunisia and Mali. The ref initially blew the full-time whistle in the 85th minute, but realized he had messed up. Play was restarted, and he then blew for full-time with 89:42 on the clock, and didn’t add any stoppage time. There had been a cooling break, multiple VAR checks, two penalties, a red card and eight substitutions in the second half. He then had to be escorted from the pitch by an army of security guards.

I obviously wasn’t watching the game, but nothing I saw looked particularly match-fixy. The Tunisians were outraged, Mali came back out to finish out the match when they were instructed to do so. Just seems like a referee who was in completely over his head, much like what the US has to deal with at times in CONCACAF. In all the confederations but UEFA, these are far and away the most high profile matches 99% of these refs will ever work.Match fixing?
Many of these teams feature EPL players who make a ton of money, but a lot of guys participating in this tournament likely aren't making enough to be deterred by match fixers, no?
No idea. Although the ref keeps the official time on his watch. It’s not like American football where the refs work off the in-stadium clock. The TV clock showed less than 90 minutes, but that could feasibly have been off by 20 seconds and account for the discrepancy. Still doesn’t account for him initially calling full-time after 85 minutes, lol.Oh my gosh.
Was there no scoreboard at this game that showed the time elapsed?
