Coronavirus (No politics)

Finished higher in his class than Biden.
Really? One is POTUS. Other is a social media attention whore. Travis is a public figure, who, for some reason has a following that takes his hot takes as gospel. Travis seems to be type to play to his audience. Narcissist who would say whatever as long as the mic is hot, as long as it garners clicks and money.

giving Covid advice when your background is law?
Anyone fluent with high school level probability and statistics can land on a solid common sense policy and risk assessment regarding Covid. Anyone can look at the data.

As someone with a PhD, I can only smh at the appeals to authority still going on. Unfortunately I've met too many idiots with advanced degrees to maintain that particular illusion.

Literally every person in America is doing that haha.

There is enough published data out there about covid and enough observable evidence for intelligent people to make conclusions without having to study virology.

For instance, I can read the Cleveland clinic study myself in order to call BS on people who say natural immunity is nowhere near as effective as the vaccine. I don't need to be a doctor.

Now if your stance is that only doctors should be giving covid advice, that's not an unreasonable take. But I would just disagree with it, and you'd probably be a pretty irritated person with millions or tens of millions of people drawing conclusions and giving advice about covid in our country every day.
I listen to experts. One reason I abhor Fox News is its use of 'medical experts' or 'legal experts' who are just blowhards giving opinions. Yes, I listen to Docs and yes, I try as we all do to make best decisions for my family with best info available. Honestly talk to Pharmacists more, esp regarding available vaccine data moreso than Docs because they're on frontline.

Man, I hate to keep jumping on your posts, because I feel like you're a really solid poster even though we often disagree.

To say "Biden is POTUS so he must be more intelligent than Travis" is just bad logic.

You're absolutely right that Travis is an attention whore, but he got to his level of influence because he echos the voices of a lot of people who believe the radical leftward shift in popular culture is ludicrous, and he can articulate better than most people the details of that lunacy.

Again, as a person I'm not a fan, and I think he absolutely takes extreme stances in order to generate clicks, but attack him on those fronts. Biden is a politician and he's really pretty good at playing politics. Let's not credit him (or any other professional politician, George Bush for instance) with a level of intelligence he doesn't deserve just because he's a successful politician. That has to do much more with money, connections, and corruption than intelligence.

Whoa whoa. i didn't say he had more intelligence. butchna was comparing school rankings. my point was that is absurd, one is commander in chief. if school rankings were a predictor off future success i'd be effed

I agree you should listen to those people more. Although you'll get quite a few different takes even within that group. The few docs I know are pretty critical of Washington's handling of Covid (that includes Biden, CDC, Trump).

If you think any of the news networks aren't pushing an agenda, I think you might be mistaken.

I hate to break it to you, but the doctors you talk to are just 'medical experts' giving opinions also.

If you talked to my doctor he would tell you the pandemic is over, get the vaccine and then do whatever you want.

All you're doing is using some preconceived notion of what's correct to decide who's a blow hard and who's an expert. Such is life when relegating your decisions to the experts on high. That's fine, but you should understand that isn't any fundamentaly different than the people getting medical advice from Fox News. You're doing the same thing.

Oh OK, I misunderstood. My bad.

I still don't like giving any kind of positive credit to politicians just because they succeed in politics. That's a negative in my book, not a positive.

It’s time we put “fact checkers” out of business. You are you’re own fact checker.

trying to type this one handed, lol. public service should be lauded, lifetime appointments abolished.

Emphasis on SHOULD. Of people for the people, not for him or herself. Or for one inside the box, linear approach. It isnt black or white. id be in favor of a third or even fourth party.

You listen to the experts that mesh with your prior opinion. There are plenty of conflicting data in the medical community regarding every topic with covid, it seems. Whether it's masking, testing, treating, etc. Did anybody call our current situation? I'd wager no. So when your preferred experts opine, understand it's the same as the "Fox News" experts.

Oh I almost forgot... You lib. 😏

NPR has actually become one of the worst, most biased voices and what makes it worst to me is that it’s publicly funded.

How is getting to enjoy near unlimited privilege, power, and wealth considered "service?" They should be thanking us for putting them in a position to live the life of royalty, we should not be lauding them for that. Their monetary and non monetary compensation far, far outweighs the sacrifice of time and effort and the value they add.

This needs to change to make it a service

I think one thing that needs to be made clear is that science is not infallible. If it were, there’d be no scientific process. Science is a means to ascertaining truth, not an end. That’s why there’s a WHOLE lot more theories than Laws.

Mike Osterholm is neither liberal or conservative.

Most pharmacists I consult are prob Trumpers. I know one well, and she def is. She just listens to data and understands the reality of this virus. Vaccinate, mask when you can. Distance. Wash hands. Live your life.

Your description of Travis is spot on. He's a guy that just looks for a wave to ride. There's too many of those types out there. It pays really well and you'll never lack for an audience seeking out a politically based echo-chamber. I used to keep up with Clay until he started making his shift over to politics and it was so obvious what he was doing.

Well, not sure where we got off track. Diana Harshbarger is prime example of money buying power and influence. Perhaps that is how an aged Democracy works? But, I cant stop the power and influence of money on our Govt. Big business and money have had far too great an influence for decades via the lobby, this is nothing new.

We’re talking QUALIFICATIONS. If we want to do the tale of the tape on that one, I’ll put a hunnert on the guy who talks for a LIVING as opposed to one that hate crimes the craft.

You just described both of them…. I don’t trust either one of them…. I just want factual info where I can make decisions myself.
