I was wondering this as well with Dave Portnoy shelling out $1.5 mil to land the #1 recruit in the country. With all the talk Clay Travis does about being a Vol Fan, I’m surprised he didn’t come out with a big NIL deal. For Heupel to take recruiting to the next level he may have to first recruit people like Clay Travis to get involved
Outkick was bought by Fox, who I think would have a conflict of interest. Clay is more about making money from sports than spending money on them, anyway. With all the talk Clay Travis does about being a Vol Fan, I’m surprised he didn’t come out with a big NIL deal. I don’t think ROI is a factor in every NIL deal. Some folks just like to feed their ego, but an outrageous deal like that one would be a slick strategy if it’s true. Think of all the talk it would get on sports news networks and around the water cooler at work. That’s a pretty wild rumor. Can’t imagine what kind of return they get for that
I doubt ego has anything to do with it when Barstool has corporate ownership. They make business decisions.I don’t think ROI is a factor in every NIL deal. I think he likes money, you know, likes it enough to not give it all away on something stupid. Don't know the guy personally, but that's my guess. With all the talk Clay Travis does about being a Vol Fan, I’m surprised he didn’t come out with a big NIL deal. Will this hurt Jackson State in the long run? Will top programs refuse to play them in the future? FBS schools often rely on big pay days from playing FCS schools. Can’t imagine any one would pay them big money after this.Rumor has it a $1.5M deal with barstool helped Jackson State sign the #1 recruit in the nation. The connection is Deion Sanders and barstool have a podcast together. JSU has denied it.
Clay get's it, he's a long term business guy. NIL to him does not seem like an area he wants to go down right now. I could see him having someone in a few years be on Outkick but don't think he is about handing money over the kids just yet. With all the talk Clay Travis does about being a Vol Fan, I’m surprised he didn’t come out with a big NIL deal.
