You're right in a sense because opposing recruiters will put their own spin on it and attempt to make it into something it's not. Not sure if it works all the time but I'm sure Stoops, Beamer, Lea, etc.......more than whisper in a recruits ear.

Indeed. You bring up a great point. Talent is only part of the story. Coaching can make an impact. I'd argue Heupel got far far more out of our offense this yr due to his scheme

How do you suppose Tennessee is going to get to a level near Bama and Georgia?….magic?

They are probably going to need some success and stability for a minute……surely you would agree.

Tennessee has had better recruiting classes….and for the most part, how did that work out? With everything that has happened and the uncertainty of the NCAA where Tennessee is right now is a win (for them)…..I also think you know this…….their certainly going to need more than just a new coach and 1 7-5 season to get there…….you, I and everyone knows this……..so why would anyone complain? Or only bring the “negative”?

“You” said the conference ranking is what’s important…..not me. Tennessee is within 10 points of 4th………right now there’s virtually no way they can get higher than 4th (this year) as they will need more on field success, more stability, more $$ (going to players) and probably a resolution to the NCAA stuff.

Then you want to change it to “just” Bama and Georgia……..come on. You know that’s simply not possible right now.

As it stands the only other SEC teams Tennessee can “catch” and possibly surpass are Missouri (within about 3 points), Auburn (within less than 4) and KY (within about 10)………and seriously are we really “worried” about those teams and possibly their 3 to 10 point lead in recruiting?

So if I understand what you are saying, while recruiting is important it is not the only thing that is important. Coaching can make a difference. Because if it was only about Jims and Joes Ga would have won the NC the last 3 years. Not so Smart does less with more talent than just about any coach I can think of.

One of Tennessee’s biggest problems this season was the lack of dept……..mostly caused by all those players that left.

Tennessee is now gaining a lot of players……and many of them are pretty good…….so that’s a problem now?

Because of Tennessee’s lack of success over the past years, their lack of stability and NCAA situation there is NO way Tennessee can recruit on the level of Bama, Georgia and A&M………however it looks like their making the MOST of their situation and recruiting at or beyond the level of everyone else.

How is that “anything” but a good thing?

Seriously 1 5 star might not help Tennessee “right now” as much as maybe 5 3 stars at positions of need.

Outstanding job to all who were involved and worked so hard to secure this ranking. I am confident we have the staff and head coach to get things done and achieve the improvement we so dearly want here at Tennessee. Go Big Orange!

Looking at this with some perspective you have proven coaches at A&M, Bama, Georgia. And really a lot of stability at Kentucky with Stoops. We’re so close in ranking to Kentucky it’s not really like there’s a talent disparity.
