I really don’t understand the issue with a 6th year for Freddie. I mean, we just stole a championship, we are playing with house money. A 6th year is small potatoes. It’s inconsequential to the greater scheme and the risk reward.

Agree we could move Riley, but we need a LH bat at the top of the lineup. I’d rather have the 38 yr old LH 1B with a 300 career avg than a 38 yr old SS/3B whose best year was .279 and fewer HR than FF for the same AAV.
I'm surprised there aren't more deals like that with deferred money. These guys' earning window slams shut in their 30s. You'd think the guaranteed long term income would be appealing.
