This is kind of similar to the political compass, which also uses a two axes approach of personal freedom and economic freedom. Here is one Libertarians breakdown on the ideological views. It isn’t a single axis left vs right. It’s actually two axes with one axis quantifying personal freedoms and the other economic freedoms. I tend to agree with this breakdown also.

- Bottom left – Statism. The opposite of libertarianism, corresponding with those supporting low economic and personal freedom.[15][16]
- Top left – Left-wing political philosophies. Those supporting low economic freedom and high personal freedom.
- Bottom right – Right-wing political philosophies. Those supporting high economic freedom and low personal freedom.
- Top right – Libertarians. David Nolan's own philosophy, corresponding with those supporting high economic and personal freedom.
- Center – Centrism. The center area defines the political middle, for those who favor a mixed system balancing both economic and personal freedom with the need for some market regulation and personal sacrifice.
I don’t take any major exception to your breakdown zep. I’d tweak it a bit but yours isn’t unreasonableThis is kind of similar to the political compass, which also uses a two axes approach of personal freedom and economic freedom.
Going with Nolan's definitions, I would break down both Democrats and Republicans as such:
Bottom left - Authoritarianism/Statism: Leftists. Think Sunshine Movement, the DSA, Rose Twitter, folks like that. Economic restrictions as well as restrictions on personal freedom, even if they don't want to admit it.
Top left - Liberals: This is the rest of us that tend to support Democrats and moderate Republicans when available. Neoliberal corporate shills like me! Pete supporters, wine cave dwellers! The horror!
Bottom right - GOP: Probably a slight majority of the Republican party. Supports economic freedoms but wants to severely restrict personal freedoms.
Top right - Moderate Republicans and probably most Independents: Leave my money alone, legalize weed, let the gay dudes down the street get married. No Step on SNEK!!!
Center - the rest of Independents: All over the place. Also a shrinking group, I believe.
Very generalized, I know. Anyways, flame away.
Uhoh, we can't be mostly in agreement on something. I better bring up a Trump whataboutism and you need to throw in a "let's go Brandon" for good measure. lolI don’t take any major exception to your breakdown zep. I’d tweak it a bit but yours isn’t unreasonable

Agreed. I put myself in that same group however I’m sure some here would argue itmain quibble is that the description implies no one in the top half is in favor of any restrictions on anything. as a representative of the top right I'd argue our quad is the lowest on the "we think the government should stop people from..." vibe
I don't really disagree with this. Everyone is going to have some sort of restrictions on stuff. I'm not very familiar with Nolan's model until tonight, but if it works like the Political Compass model, you score an x and y point that puts you at a varying point within each quad. The libertarian quad by philosophical belief is going to be lowest on "government should do x or y", if they are true libertarians.main quibble is that the description implies no one in the top half is in favor of any restrictions on anything. as a representative of the top right I'd argue our quad is the lowest on the "we think the government should stop people from..." vibe

Maybe the top right is more the mindset that we don't really care about what you do (unless it's a criminal act harming others) as long as you don't want us to legitimize it, rather than complete anarchy. That's different from saying somebody accepts anything, and still different from saying the government must somehow force/legislate or whatever legitimacy. More like don't tell me how to live my life or attempt to direct or control my life, and I'll do the same for you. Doesn't mean I'm good with everything anybody else might do; but as long as you don't force it on me, we're good. That's assuming we can all agree that some things - like murder, theft, and other criminal acts are not acceptable.
Top left and top right of Nolan's model are the same until it comes to economic issues. Leave me alone is a common refrain from liberals when it comes to social issues.Maybe the top right is more the mindset that we don't really care about what you do (unless it's a criminal act harming others) as long as you don't want us to legitimize it, rather than complete anarchy. Meh, the right is doing the same, and it is working. They are forcing the left to do far more than just accept "eccentricities."I agree that's what you would expect from the top left. In practice there either aren't many people of the left who fit in that box, or they don't fit that definition. It seems like all of the left is attempting to force those to the right to do far more than just accept "eccentricities". In any case I probably don't express it well - social studies of any type has never really interested me, so definitions and philosophical boxes are not a strong point, and it's late which probably doesn't make my attempts any better.
You need to just own your hatred of gay folks at this point. You hoped in a different thread that Pete would be referred to as a "cigarette" while he was overseas. No you have to accept that two dudes bumping uglies is beautiful, a dude with an Adam’s apple can be a chic, minorities are inferior and have to be GIVEN undeserved opportunities, etc.
