After watching this it sounds like Maurer was asked to leave.

Yeah, I got that impression, too. But at around the 38 minute mark he says, “I wanted to stay with all my heart…” and then continues on with, “I messed up. And I made the decisions that I made. I messed it up and that’s the reason I’m not out there with them. It sucks. It really does. It’s just something you gotta live with.”

Sounds like he was asked to leave because of something he did. I have no idea what that may be.

yeah His fanboy in the FF said that too but wont give the reason - maybe it was the mis use of the credit card at a strip club that has been posted as one of the infractions from the Beldar regime -- also BeardedVol has been mia since midway through the Bama game -- Band Camp ? Daryl Dickey held the clipboard and played the role of opponents’ QBs in some practices. When one of the greatest to wear the Orange & White was injured by dastardly Bammers, he stepped up. He would start five games out of four seasons of eligibility and lead the Vols to mastery over then #2 ranked Miami in the Sugar Bowl. Honestly, I cannot think of a better backup QB. His story is heroic, worthy of a feature film.
