He was a mid-late round caliber talent that got drafted in the mid-late rounds. So yes, overall it's a nothing burger. But there are dozens of players like him that go undrafted every year. And players like him rightly or wrongly, come with a lot of off field baggage. So he most teams probably would have taken him off the draft board completely, since he was a mediocre talent that would now carry a media circus around him. You put up with baggage for elite talent. Not so much replacement level guys.


It certainly seems probable that Goodell pressured a team to draft a mediocre talent rather than the NFL take the PR hit that they spurned the first openly gay player.

And the point is that he was a mediocre talent that was late round draft pick at best. So it's pretty plausible that Goodell pressured a team to draft Sam rather than take the PR hit that they spurned the first openly gay player.

Not only is what I said a good take, it's relevant and a good point. You're a half-wit if you can't acknowledge this. Quit saying people should get fired over something they said in emails they never thought would see the light of day. Everyone IS held to the same standards. That's why we have HR departments. Maybe you've never worked in a position that you've had to deal with this. But I promise you, people are fired or reprimanded everyday for inappropriate behavior in the workplace.

And small-minded in rich coming from someone defending what Gruden did.

I guess I shouldn't have bothered arguing with you. My father always told me to never argue with stupid people. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Good news is that he is still eligible to run for political office as a Dem. Nothing in their past ever gets held against them. See Robert Byrd or Ralph Notham for reference

Sure you can. That's not the point though. Gruden has held high profile, high paying positions where he's been a major decision maker and a high profile analyst. It's obvious now he should have never been in such roles

I do agree with this. A lot of people have known about this for awhile and haven't said a word. It isn't like Gruden holds power over most of these people. So clearly, someone has an axe to grind. That doesn't absolve Gruden, but you also have to question the motives behind releasing this information now.

The emails were discovered because the front office for Washington is under investigation by the NFL for their workplace environment. Since the emails were sent on the official work email between Gruden and Washington president Allen, they were stored in the work server.

League investigators would be combing through Allen’s emails, which even if deleted are stored on the system. There is no conspiracy to this.

I hate it because I’ve always liked Gruden, but there is no excusing it and it’s his fault to be so dumb about it.

Wow. God knows what else the NFL has turned up from Gruden's e-mails to members of the Washington organization. It looks like the NFL was going to continue leaking progressively offensive batches until Mark Davis fired him. I doubt we have even seen the worst of them.

It's easier now to see what was going on here. Jon Gruden's brother, Jay, was the Washington Redskins head coach for a portion of the 2011-2018 e-mail time frame ('14 to '19). Some of those e-mails were sent to Bruce Allen, who had been the GM of the Buccaneers, while Gruden was there. They are close friends. That probably gave Jon a sense of ease in speaking off the cuff. So he turned off his filter, and let his true colors fly.

Is it now finally safe to assume we will never see another "Grumors" thread on VolNation again? Or would that be giving us too much credit? LOL.
