Wow @ Gruden...another debacle had we hired him [update: Gruden resigns]

Bringing up Charlie Ward literally is picking and choosing, I’m saying it’s a bad choice because it is. You’re projecting

What? No it’s not. You guys are touting an undersized, weak, and slow defensive player that played hard (giggity) as being deserving yet a guy that won the heisman wasn’t. There’s a reason they have the combine and guys that can actually evaluate talent.

It's...not though. If everyone was held to the same scrutiny in the NFL there would be A LOT of firings. I wonder how much has been said about women in the NFL that would be considered highly offensive and derogatory over the past 10 years? Maybe we should fire them all too.

Not only is what I said a good take, it's relevant and a good point. You're a half-wit if you can't acknowledge this. Quit saying people should get fired over something they said in emails they never thought would see the light of day. You are creating a stifling atmosphere that is impossible to uphold and adhere to yourself.

I can tell by the small-minded arguments that y'all are too entrenched in your shortsightedness. Too prideful to be wrong it seems. So this is where I bid you farewell.

I can proudly say that I have not sent an inappropriate email that degrades anybody to their work email address like Jon Gruden. Sounds like maybe you have and should probably not for future reference.

Who said Charlie Ward didn’t deserve a shot at the NFL? Nash was just saying the reason he wasn’t drafted is because NFL teams were scared he’d choose basketball and teams didn’t feel he was a first rounder. He would have been drafted had he fully committed to football. He chose basketball instead.

Love all you smug woke pieces of trash celebrating Jon Gruden's demise.

God I wish I could be as condescending and smart as you guys.

I sure wish I could revel in someone else's misfortune.

Heaven forbid there be an open discussion with Jon Gruden about the things he said. Sucks that this human being is just disgraced now. Can't be redeemed. Said mean emails.

Would be stupid to try and help him feel less homophobic or racist? Even though we don't know how he really feels about it now. It's definitely not possible that in reality he actually doesn't give two sh*ts about gay people or he likely has zero issues with black people.

Much better to just crucify him.

Yep.

Sure makes you feel better about yourselves right?

How pious are you basking in your schadenfreude.

Boy I sure wish I could be woke like you guys. The world is such a mean place with so many nasty emails!

I've never sent an in appropriate email. Nice try though. I'm just not self righteous like some of you. Nor do I think so highly of myself that I am incapable of a misstep.

Again, deflecting from the main point I made. Which, let's be honest, you know I'm right but refuse to address it. Very few in the NFL will hold up to this type of scrutiny. The derogatory comments about women alone would probably get half the players in the NFL fired.

And quit arguing like this is simply because it was sent through work email. If there were screenshots of him texting a close friend saying the same thing, we would still be here arguing this stupidity and he would still be "resigning". Saying this is because it was sent through work emails is disingenuous and you know it. Quit with semantics.

These discussions can still happen, he doesn’t have to stay the Raiders coach with zero consequences whatsoever in order to learn from this

So why didn’t Sam make it?

You’re not going to win this argument lol, there are tons of productive college players that fall to the later rounds based on measurables; some make it and some get cut for the same reasons they slipped in the draft. It’s never going to prove retroactively that they got a chance they didn’t deserve

Just so people are aware, someone I am very close to worked with Fisher and the Rams during the Michael Sam fiasco. Fisher was definitely "encouraged" to draft Michael Sam.

Sam would not have been as valued as he was had he not come out. He got drafted higher than he should have, got sponsorship deals he never would have gotten, and made a boat load of money because of it. He played it perfectly for himself at the expense of those around him and got a national spotlight he didn't actually deserve. This was obvious to anyone paying attention. Especially to those in the know. It's not surprising Gruden had issue with this. He wasn't the only one.

1) I haven’t seen anyone celebrate his demise, just that he should be and was correctly fired/lost his job.

2) As @NashVol11 said, he can have all those discussions without having the privilege of being the Raiders coach.

3) If you don’t say demeaning things about people, especially stuff that can be traced back to you, you don’t have to be worried about becoming disgraced. Maybe Jon will now learn the consequences of his actions and understand that his behavior was unprofessional.

Even if everything you said is true about Sam, it still doesn’t excuse the language he said about “drafting qu**ers”. All those points could have been made without that. It was inappropriate for him to say what he did.

1) If you have never sent an inappropriate email and I have never sent an inappropriate email, then why should Jon Gruden get a pass when he’s a highly publicized figure?

2) You’re right, I’m sure there is a lot of things said by everyone. But when you’re a public figure like Jon Gruden, you are judged on a much more bigger scale. He was the face of MNF for ESPN and was 1/32 NFL coaches. He is held to a higher standard as a public figure and he should be.

3) You’re most likely right, but you also mentioned that he “sent emails that would never see the light of day” which still doesn’t excuse what he said. They did the see light of day. He also sent them to somebody’s work address to an NFL executive which Washington and the NFL oversee. He should have been much smarter than to do that. He is not being prosecuted for what he said. But that doesn’t mean he has the right to coach the Raiders.

There's no "crucify" him here. Just don't be a dumbass and send stupid emails to business addresses and you've still got a job.

This isn't hard. It's accountability not for his attitudes or whatever but for his actions.

Lots of people get terminated because they repeatedly screw up...... that's what Gruden did. Regardless of the nature of the screw up, it was repeated and obvious.

Screw the nature of the screw up. He did it. Repeatedly. He's a dumbass. End of story.

If the people who put out this hit on Gruden by researching decade old emails with hopes of finding something on him want to maintain the image of being principled and not hypocritical, then their full report will include any and everyone who received those emails and what they did with them. Did they respond lol? Did they forward them on to someone else? Did they rebuke Gruden for what he said or just let it slide by and not object?

Be consistent and thorough. Unless this was done by someone within the NFL office who wanted to go after Gruden specifically, then just sit right where you are and celebrate a job well done.

I think everyone agrees that the things ruden said were inappropriate and unprofessional, and he deserves to be punished for that, but you can't pick and choose certain offenses and say that due process doesn't exist in that case. It always has to exist.

Even for the scumbag murderer who killed a HomeTown hero police officer here in cold blood a few days ago. You still have due process. It sucks, but it's the basis of a fair system. It applies in the worst of the worst situations like the one I just described, all the way down to something relatively minor like an email sent from one person to another.

There need to be follow-up questions, now that the initial purpose has been served for whoever did all this work.

A job vs a murder..... jeez. And Gruden has/had remedies through the NFL if he thinks he's been wronged.

Bottom line: Gruden tucked his tail and left because he knows he sent those emails to work addresses, he knows he screwed up, he knows he gets a "time out" from coaching/TV for this.

Trying to link some murderer to Gruden is a dick move. Do better.

What criminal offense has Jon Gruden been charged with

Uhhhh what remedies through the league are those?

And no, he didn't "tuck tail and left" .... he was fired, regardless of semantics.

So? He hasn't fought it. He has whatever job rights Nevada gives if he thinks he's been wronged.

Besides, what rights SHOULD an employee have? Shouldn't jobs be "right to work, right to fire" as the employer sees fit or are you some kinda liberal?

LMAO How old are you, seriously because I don't think anybody over the age of 16 would make such a clueless statement. Calling me a liberal puts you in a special class of dumb. And this...."Shouldn't jobs be "right to work, right to fire...." Never had a job have you, mommy still taking care of you feeding you Pop Tarts and Capri Suns to keep you from drowning the cat? Gruden was under contract, he has whatever rights are stipulated by that agreement but since he resigned he forfeits the remainder of his $100M contract and walks away with nothing. The state of Nevada has no say so in this mess and while nobody has seen the contract you will always find a section titled "Termination for cause" which covers conduct unbecoming and words to that effect.... you know like allegedly calling the commissioner a banned word, and there being documented evidence of it. But since Gruden resigned the contract is voided and any "remedies" he may have been entitled too are also forfeit. You still with me?

Now, your concern over Gruden's welfare is very touching, but he's raked in close to $35M during his short tenure with the Raiders so I think he'll be just fine. Also being a Raider fan and knowing what a babbling moron Mark Davis is I'm pretty sure he will make some sentimental gesture to Gruden as a handsome parting gift covered by another agreement to keep his mouth shut.

Sorry, too soon?

Someone will explain it for those who don't figure it out just from the title.

Freak, move to another forum if you want. Just thought it would be funny here.

We can all write our opinions but ultimately it’s between Gruden and his employer. Gruden proved who he is at his core through a series of emails over the course of many years. His employer decided that he isn’t a person they want representing their company. I’m ok with that.

LaVar Arrington said something I found interesting on his show this morning. He wondered how long the Raiders knew of these emails versus how long since they decided they cared what was in them.
