2022 Army game bought out (merged)

Just paid Army $500,000 to cancel the contract and not play next year and replaced them with Akron. Now Army is without a game next year. Any details on any other reason we would have dropped this game?
When you play a triple option team, you have to spend the entire week practicing for an offense that you'll never see again. It's a week of practice wasted. It's absolutely stupid to put a triple-option team on your schedule.

Knoxville is hosting the Medal of Honor convention next year. They were going to honor MoH recipients at the game. I’m sad to see that go away.

Is playing Army the football team “honorable”??

Seriously?

Tennessee has been in a mess for a long time. They aren’t out there trying to do anything to service members or Army………their simply trying to help their own situation.

I'd like to understand the reasons for, but I don't care enough to go scrounging through these articles. Last Army game I attended we got beat.

I have read dishonorable and scared when mentioning the Army game. I mean lol. We play much better teams every year than Army. There is no real reason to play Army. No real advantages to have to prepare for an archaic offense that you will never see again. Factor in the chop blocking and our lack of depth and you get no real benefit in playing Army.

We would beat them easily. But again, it’s of zero benefit. It’s why the powerhouses of CF rarely schedule a game against them.

There is nothing about playing a football game that is either honorable or dishonorable. People need to stop getting their feelings hurt so much, my god. Grow a pair.

I saw the thread about being scared to play them but not about exactly what this article is talking about. If I missed it, my apologies. Do you agree?

Opinion: Tennessee's dishonorable move of canceling Army game shows how far Volunteers have fallen (msn.com)

I don’t really buy a lot in that article but…

The fact that they signed a contract with them in 2016 and are just now canceling it leaving them in the lurch for a game next season is pretty lame AND the Neyland angle rings true too.

I understand why we chose not to play the game, but it could have been handled better, but maybe I don’t know all there might be to know either.

All that aside, as a customer, I’d be a lot more inclined to buy a ticket to see us play Army.

GBO!!!

Our team would waste an entire week preparing for an offense they will never ever see again. It's a no-brainer and glad this AD and coach had the gonads to cancel a game that is of no benefit to this program.
