Hidden Keys to Victory: Pitt

Offensively I believe the key to victory will be our rushing attack against their front 7. Milton is going to need some major help from the ground game. On defense it boils down to getting pressure on the QB. Edge Pass rushers and interior D penetration have to be a factor because their QB can sling it. It seems like we have the personnel on the D line to do this.

Tim Banks. As the former DC at Penn State, he's very familiar with Pitt and beat them the last three meetings in a row while allowing an average of only 10 points/game. I doubt Pitt will throw too many surprises at him, so if our guys match up favorably with their guys, Banks defensive strategy should work in our favor.

Key will be Tennessees ability to stay on the field offensively. Convert on 3rd down. Use the tempo to wear down the Pitt front 7. They are a talented group, but I imagine the depth behind them is suspect. Force Pitt to rotate guys in more than they would like and make em tired. Have em sucking air by the 4th quarter

If the Milt man is half the running threat as claimed, we may not need to pass the ball very much. A Small, Wright, Pierce or Beckwith, and Milton ground attack could be Pitt's kryptonite. An effective running attack and the threat that the Milt man might deliver bottle after bottle to the WRs down the field, if they crowd the box, even if he never does. Effective runs and the airdrop threat alone could fare well lay felines low.

That never even crossed my mind about Banks being with PSU prior. It should be a factor tomorrow. He was CO DC correct?

I think special teams could make a huge impact. Especially if we need a field goal to win the game.

I think it's the recievers being the HIDDEN key. I've noticed that Pitt Dbs aren't fast and have a slow first step...they make up for that with their physicality and get away with a lot of holding. Our receivers are all much faster, but do we have any that can be mean and physical.

How effectively will UT pressure the Pitt QB and vice versa?

The ability of UT’s DTs to reestablish the LOS. If they get middle push then it frees the LBs and DEs. It also spoils their run game and gets Pickett off platform. He’s mobile but is better throwing from a stabile pocket.

I think it will all boil down to qb play; can he hit 60% of his pass plays, and not just 5 yd passes. if so I think we win, if not pitt will beat us we have to have a duel threat offense. Get good qb play we can win every game with the exception of bama, ga, and fla.
