The Official CoronaZoneVirus Thread

Yeah, that's what I thought.

More people should be more like @95 Vol Alum

I have no issue if a core doctrine of your religion is anti-vaccination. If that's your belief, then that's your belief. I have an issue if you are lying. Problem is, its not too easy to tell who has these beliefs and who is making it up.

Unless I read Rocy's post wrong and he has the condition too. Then please forget everything after good morning.

I don’t know 8283s regular job. I don’t know what inside info 8283 has on Rocy. And I’m not trying to slight 8283. But Rocy should listen to his doctor about his health, not any random internet person.
I had some difficulty translating the posts. The lack of punctuation threw me there.

I know you meant well, and the initial post was confusing. So I wasn’t trying to diss you or anything. Hope it didn’t come across like that. If both have the condition or even like he hinted, it’s just a genetic thing, I’d seek doctor’s advice.

I didn't get that Rocy had the condition until I read it two or three more times. Doctor would be an easy call on this one. However, I stick with trying to get the Pfizer if they do. I've only heard of a few people having a reaction to that one vs. the Modurna (sp?)

unsettling question arose in our house less than a day after visit to doctor's office for treatment of ear infection.
wife was furious he only wears a face shield. I had no problem with that -- he remained at least 6 feet from us and nurse who took vitals and examined ear was masked, as was nurse who administered steroids and and antibiotics.

after my wife asked doc why he doesnt wear a mask under his shield, she insisted that he responded that masks (he never specifiec what type have been ineffective in battle against delta variant. I havent read anyting to contradict or supportt that but don't think doc should be lynched for his opinion

we live in the state with the worst vaccination rates, but received both dosesof the pfizer vaccine immediately after it became availabity, Our grandson contracted COVID this spring from former nanny who never was vaccinanated. That angered me, but do I find a new doctor? I agree it's a bad message for him to wear only a face shield but wife cant understand why I.m not outraged at doc.

I,m married to alabamian who has no patience with those that arent vaccinated or properly mask

It varies, but I hear more stories of Pfizer being mild than Moderna. But I know that others have different experiences.

And I agree with hman above: loss of taste and smell is generally associated with the actual disease, not with the shot. Seems to be a decent chance that his ex came down with the disease before getting the second shot, or before it could fully kick in. Seems like someone else here had the same thing happen to them?

His son’s doctor should be asked about any specific risk due to his congenital heart issue. And Im still unclear whether rocy has the same issue, but again, that is exactly why he should talk to his own doctor.

IIRC, the very rare cases of heart issues from vaccination resolved quickly. And the disease itself can attack the heart, and not so mildly. Again, this is for health care providers to talk to, who are flooded with information on this.

I would think a face shield is more effective in not transmitting the coronavirus than a mask. The virus is so small it can go right through a mask if somebody is infected while a face shield is solid plastic that the virus can’t penetrate.

Right through a mask? I’m not denying it can penetrate, but right through?

Also, a shield is just that, so there’s nothing at the bottom or the top, just open space

Here’s this about masks, from February of this year, discussing different European countries’ policies on masks. It’s from the British Medical Journal and is more comprehensible than most:
Covid-19: Are cloth masks still effective? And other questions answered

Here’s another one, also from February, that involves considerably heavier slogging, in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA):
Effectiveness of Mask Wearing to Control Community Spread of SARS-CoV-2
This one has a nice table halfway down showing results of studies of mask effectiveness.

Three-layer cloth masks (cloth outside, cloth inside, with non-woven filter material) approaches the efficiency of surgical masks (the blue paper rectangles). I hate the 3-layer guys, finding them hot and heavy. (Just me.) N95’s are the most efficient, but only when they are fit-tested, as they are for hospital workers - no gaps around the face. Bandannas and other single-layer cloth “masks” might keep out dust on the cattle trails, but not so much for tiny virus particles.

I wear the blue paper surgical masks, now that they can be bought in stores. Medical personnel have worn them for years for surgeries and other invasive procedures. (They save N95’s for seriously spooky things, like TB patients.) Does anyone seriously believe that they would wear them if they didn’t help protect against disease?

Anyway, whatever. Stay safe and go Vols.

Masks slow down the speed they penetrate but the virus will go through. When you cough, sneeze or breathe out the virus it goes straight ahead not up or down.

My advice, seriously given, is that your family should move to Oregon or someplace else that will comport to your wife’s expectations of others. I know that’s extreme but I think she’d be happier, which would make you happier. I don’t have to tell anyone that this country is Balkanized. It’s unreasonable to expect blue state policies in a red state.

When you cough or sneeze, it goes everywhere.
When Covid first hit, they thought that it was these heavier, wetter particles that carried the virus, including landing on surfaces, thus the hand washing. But after several months, they realized that it’s lighter, aerosolized particles that float in the air and stay suspended for some time. I’d hate to have someone’s snot landing on me too, and face shields are good for that.

This writer is an amazing resource on Covid information, including the likely source as an accidental lab leak. (You don’t deliberately unleash biowarfare without protections for your own side.) She also discusses how there were so many missteps by CDC, WHO, and others.

Apologies to those bothered by the article source. She is published by numerous outlets, not just this one.
Opinion | Why Did It Take So Long to Accept the Facts About Covid?

Sorry in advance TFG. 🙄

It is an interesting subject to ponder. If someone really believes that their life is endangered by unvaccinated people and maskless people, why in the hell would they stay in a state with one of the lowest vaccination rates and that has banned mask mandates? If it were me, I’d get the hell out and move somewhere that I felt safe.
