My whole family is in West TN. It’s really bad over there.BREAKING: #COVID19 situation dire in West Tennessee. @uthsc warns ERs may soon be forced to triage medical care, turning away patients who, they believe, are unlikely to survive! Failure to impose mask mandates and other mitigation measures will be “catastrophic.”

He was sick for a while. So sad.https://www.newschannel5.com/news/n...t-phil-valentine-dies-after-battling-covid-19
Sad. A preventable death.
I see that. And you're right. So when we say "they're up 300%!" That sounds scary. But in reality, these are not significant numbers at all. That's exactly the point I've been trying to make.
All hospitalizations and deaths are bad. But we are not seeing some crazy spike in the young hospitalized or dying from this virus. Thankfully.
You're not totally off here, but the point in the second tweet is not to peddle some crazy percentage, rather it is just to point out that mask wearing has not stopped or even slowed the spread. That's not the same as saying "The delta is affecting children! Panic! Fear!" When, in reality, it's not.You say this...
Yet you do the same thing here...
Hawaii ranks 51st (including DC) in cases per 1M pop and in deaths per 1M pop. Their current "surge" has yielded a 7 day average around 700 cases per day. If the goal is to prevent covid, they've done better than literally every other state plus DC. They could fire back with the truthful claim that Tennessee has 483% more deaths per 1M pop then Hawaii does. I'm not agreeing with their method since it came at untold other costs, but it seems disingenuous to claim percentages are being used to manipulate opinion and then use percentages to manipulate opinion. The disingenuous claims of the coronabros are rivaled only by the disingenuous claims of the no-ronabros.

So similar, so I see why you said it, but not the same.
Be that as it may, isn't it fair to say that COVID was still one of the differentiating factors between life and death for a lot of those children? Regardless of whether they had pre-existing medical conditions or not, COVID was still a factor in their deaths and shouldn't be discounted or treated any less serious.
This reminds me of those early on in the pandemic who were flippantly saying "well it only seriously affects the elderly". And my response to those people was, uh yeah and? Do their lives not count for something as well? Should we still not take every precaution necessary to protect them?
The problem is too many are looking at this pandemic from a completely selfish and self-centered viewpoint. You don't wear a mask for YOUR benefit. You wear it in consideration for others. You don't practice social distancing just for YOUR benefit, you do it also for the benefit of others. You don't get vaccinated just for YOUR benefit. You do it to help slow the perpetuation and mutation of the virus, which benefits everyone. IMO there's a pandemic of self-centeredness thats contributing to the exacerbation of the medical one. But go right on playing politics because that's more important. Go 'Murica!!
