Coronavirus (No politics)

It’s so obviously off base that it’s not really worth responding to. Whatever anybody thinks the solution is, it’s straight up denial to ignore the capacity problems that are going on in hard hit areas.
Who denied there are some areas hard hit?

is the Cdc chart a lie?

It is easy to make everyone panic and say that ICUs are full - most hospitals have 8-12 beds in an ICU. They fill up pretty quick in any public emergency. The news makes it sound like the whole hospital is overflowing.
Seriously people have forgotten last year. Hospitals operate at near capacity all the time. People just don’t remember the comfort or empty tents in the park, and we are nowhere close to the amount of hospitalizations as we were then.

unless someone wants to argue the CDC chart on hospitalization is a lie. Anyone?

That statement was Baghdad Bob in nature. View attachment 388127

No… it’s just that I can actually read and see the scale the chart is using and it’s misleading to use a graph on a scale like that when you’re obviously trying to downplay the numbers. Average hospitalizations are around 12/100k. Spiking at 15-20 nationally is obviously nowhere near what was going on in the 3rd wave. But hitting even 15 represents 25-30% above average which most rational people find concerning.

I actually agree with you on some of this stuff, but you’re trying way too hard to confirm your own bias.

Posting a chart from the cdc showing hospitalizations are nowhere near the peak of COVID, and that it’s not happening with young people in spite of the lies, is not confirming my bias. It’s a fact.

People are panicking tho and even facts don’t help.

You know nothing of what your talking about. Capacity? That’s two levels. #ICU beds are targeted based on many factors around demographics etc…. Your implying these hospitals just didn’t have enough beds.
Then capacity is also tied to staffing. Haven’t spoke to a single director who says they have enough staff and all are trying to hire more. Instead of a normal ration of 2 to 1 patients in an ICU some are running with 3 to 1. Then there are respiratory therapist. Say a hospital has max 20 ventilators but has to purchase more or rent additional units you have to have the personnel to run all these vents and manage the weaning trials etc. the industry has helped solved the supply issue with last year GE, Medtronic and others ramping up production. Can’t mass produce respiratory therapist.

That’s the problem though. Between the non-compliers, the maskers who just aren’t very conscientious and human nature, I’m not sure you can ever hope to get the compliance necessary for making it effective. It’s kind of like those 3’ plexiglass barriers that people talk behind as if air isn’t circulating around them from 18 inches to the left and right.

I think the real impact is situational. Particularly in crowded indoor places where people are stationary for brief/long periods.

For instance, if I went into Lowe’s on a Monday afternoon the chances are it’s not crowded and I’m moving through the store fairly quickly. Whether I or anyone else is masked or not is probably irrelevant.

But then let’s say I go to Kroger on a Sat afternoon when it’s very crowded. I have to wait in aisles for people to move and then stand in line to check out etc. If there is an infected person in any of those spots where we are stationary near each other then the masks will do it’s job to prevent the spread or at least minimize the viral load.

There are plenty of such cases where an infected person flew on a plane where all passengers were masked and no major outbreak occurred. Or an oft cited case of a two infected hairdressers who where masked but none of their 100ish clients became infected.

I do think the half ass plexiglass barriers are ridiculous though.

Not exactly sure what I'm being called out for here. To me, "capacity" can refer to beds, equipment, staff etc. and I never specified any particular element in my 2 sentence post. I thought I was agreeing with you lol.

I know in NE Tennesse, the schools are being hit hard with covid cases. City and county schools both. Not panicking, but there should be concern.

Cases are not concerning. Hospitalizations and death are. Young people are not being hospitalized at any significant rate and more children have died from seasonal flu than covid.

I worked at Wendy's when they had the salad bar. One of my jobs was cleaning the sneeze shield. You know why they had a sneeze shield? Cause it was a simple thing to help keep people's germs off the food.

Alabama has ZERO ICU beds. Jefferson County, TN has 21% positivity rate with over half the folks admitted to the hospital there having COVID. You have to look at hot spots. You just don’t know what your are talking about . Not sure if you read any posts I put but I was in 6 hospitals over the past week and I had to go through all the COVID units and literally the ICUs were all full with some ICUs now dedicated to COVID which means those beds are not available to folks who have other conditions and get hospitalized. There are patients having to be transported to other states who have capacity.
You can show all the graphs you want but a simple google search shows that hospitals are being strained. And I saw it with my own eyes, spoke to the nurses and doctors. Had to wear an N95 mask in those areas. Saw the signs on the doors of COVID patients with warnings that PPE is required to enter. Watched nurses putting on full PPE with plastic gowns, gloves, face shields, head covering just to walk in and change a setting on a monitor or ventilator. Enter the room for 1 minute and then have to discard all that PPE.

Wish the doubters could see what I saw firsthand.

But haven't you heard? The guv'ment's lying to us. The CDC is lying to us. The WHO is lying to us. It's all a nefarious conspiracy and we're all being played like fiddles! We'd rather take our "gallant" stand for freedom than endure the temporary minor inconvenience of wearing masks and receiving a vaccine that's been proven to greatly reduce the severity of COVID symptoms to get us back to normal sooner rather than later. Go 'Murica!!

And you wonder why some of us display that kind of attitude? Because of smartass statements like yours. We're sick and tired of hearing about it, we're sick and tired of people blindly bowing down and just taking whatever is shoveled towards them. There are a majority of people these days that do no think for themselves. The CDC and The WHO are a bunch of jackasses that are taking a pay day to say whatever they're told to say. It's really sad that people do not see what the government constantly does over and over again. It is a choice to have the vaccine or not. I have chosen not to take it and never will. You have had the vaccine, I'm not mad at you about that, nor do I think you are some piece of **** for doing it. I'm just not gonna sit here and have some ******* get in my face constantly screaming get the vaccine, get the vaccine. That's ridiculous and child like behavior.

It's amusing to me that so many would rather take the mental leap of faith in believing the conspiracies rather than simply recognize the facts. I don't consider ignoring the data "thinking for yourself". The facts are 97% of those currently hospitalized for COVID are unvaccinated. 99% of those who are currently dying from COVID are unvaccinated. The states with the lowest vaccine rates are the ones with the highest percentage of COVID cases and if you live in those states, you're 4 times more likely to get it. Now you can continue spin as many yarns as you want and tell yourself as many fairy tales as you want, if that's what you need to do to cope with the reality of the situation but none of your bull$hit posturing changes the fact that this has become a pandemic of the unvaccinated.

So 5 months later, I finally got my second Moderna shot. I feel like crap. Been running a fever all night. And hey, because I'm immunosuppressed, I get to take a third one in a month. Yay me!

It beats potentially being on a ventilator or worse, in a casket.

I absolutely love the fact that you ignored the last part of my post that you quoted, but that's cool. There is absolutely no reasoning with someone like you, but hey that's cool too. To each their own man. You are still also trying to force "facts" on me that are being fed to you by officials.

Same attitude in Tennesse. I had a relative in the hospital back in the spring with covid. He's still not 100%

He still will tell anybody it's a joke and they shouldn't get the Vaccine. Why? Politics
. At this point 19 months into the pandemic and nearly 625,000 dead in this country i still don’t understand their logic it’s crazy and foolish.
